My husband asked that I post and ask this question. What happens when a small child is riding one of the rides and they start freaking out? His example questions was, what if we were riding Its A Small World and all of a sudden our DS doesn't want to ride anymore. Anyone one have experience with this? Our son is a very good child, but DH always thinks worst case scenario.

Very good question. We were riding the Figment ride (can't remember the name...sorry) and, it frightened my dd3 very badly. She screamed through the entire ride at the top of her lungs. We just had to ride it out....literally.

I think it would depend on the ride/attraction. I know the Haunted House has an "early" exit.

For most rides, I think you just have to comfort them the best way that you can. You know as a parent what your child is like, if you just arn't sure, it might be best to skip it. I saw one family take their youngster on the new Stitch attraction. This kid was protesting from the start when there was plenty of time to back out, but they made him go anyway, and he completely freaked out the entire time. And on that one, there is no way you can hold and comfort your child, because you are all strapped into seperate seats that lock down on you when the show starts.

She freaked out on WInnie the Pooh (overtired!) and we just had to keep riding. THat was really the only thing she didn't like-she loved Pirates of the Caribbean, SNow White, everything. She ADORED small world (we rode 3 times). I think most kids should be ok b/c of all the colors and so much to look at. She was more freaked out by the characters.

As others have stated, you just have to try to comfort them, but the ride doesn't stop for you to get off. A little different, but my DD at 18 months started projectilly vomiting on It's a Small World in Disneyland. :guilty: We had to just sit there on the ride the whole time, trying to comfort her. She turned out to have the flu for the next two days.

There's really nothing to do but wait it out. You can prepare, for example if dc is scared of the dark, a small flashlight or even a glow stick necklace may help. If dc is scared of loud noises some headphones may help. My kids always liked (and still do) to know what was coming next so if DH and I didn't know or remember one of us would ride first, alone, and give a full report.

We had this happen on Soarin', we got all the way to part where you get ready to board and dh had to leave with our youngest. They gave him a pass for himself. He never did use it, and missed out on the ride.

For most rides, you just ride it out. My 2 yo DD was TERRIFIED of POC after going on all sorts of other rides (Maelstrom, Pooh, Peter Pan, HM, etc). Go figure. We just held her close and told her how "funny" all the pirates were until it was over. After that, she was tentative on most rides. If in doubt, I would just get a child swap and have one parent check it out first.

Have a great trip! :flower:
