Small business Saturday.

Can I get on my soapbox please?

If we do not support our local businesses...all we will have left are the big-box stores.

I signed up our AMX cards so we are going to dinner at a wonderful local restaurant tomorrow night for free. We will have to split the bill 3 ways to use all the credits. Their prime rib is known all over the Midwest. We have customers come in to town and they ask about the place, it's that well known!
We support small business and about 25 businesses were on the list to use the $25 credit in our town.

Yes, Disney fans, please support small businesses! When booking a Disney Vacation, please consider using an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner over CRO! These are mostly very small agencies that specialize in Disney travel and are manned by TA's who are passionate about Disney travel and want to help their clients make the most out of their Disney trips! They work tirelessly to get their clients the best deals, ADR's, travel tips, etc. And they make a very modest commission to do this. I work with one of them - I won't plug the agency here - I'm going to plug them all! Please, when booking your next trip, consider using an EarMarked agency! You will be supporting a small business!

I am going to the Farmer's Market tomorrow. I think we will also hit the local butcher and go out to eat some place local. I think DH and I need to hit the local chocolate shop! :woohoo:

We are getting pizza & subs from a local pizza place for dinner. They're soo expensive so we rarely go, but the $25 AmEx credit will lighten the load enough to venture out. Or delivery, not sure yet.

DHs family Thanksgiving is at 1 but we always leave hungry (doesnt matter which holiday!) so I'm sticking to my plan of pizza!

I'll be purchasing some handcrafted jewelry from someone local who does fabulous work. I probably would not have even considered making the purchase without the $25 incentive. She'll still come out ahead even though the Amex charge to the vendor is higher than Visa or Mastercard.

We are supporters!! :cool1:

We'll be eating dinner at a local small business and thanks to AMEX :lovestruc it will be nearly free!

We try to support small local businesses....especially restaurants-we very rarely go to chain restaurants!

I hope people who are going with the AmEx promotion will return on their own in the future! :)

Wow - I made my purchase at ~9:10. (A $52 Vera Bradley bag for DD - that she really wants.) The store wrapped it up for free - ANOTHER reason to support small businesses:goodvibes Yeah!!!

I mentioned very specifically that the small buisness incentive is clearly the reason why I made this purchase - as I was really on the fence about it. the store owner was really glad I mentioned the promo :thumbsup2

And - by 9:16 - I received an e-mail from American Express stating:

Congratulations, you completed all qualifying transactions on your Card
ending in XXXXX. Expect a statement credit in 3-5 days.

Thank you for supporting Small Business Saturday®!

This store owner is a "key" player in a newly expanded food pantry in our area - and as a small business owner - really "gives back" to the community. Another reason to support small businesses.

I registered my AMEX the other day, but now I can't find the list of participating small businesses. I had one in mind, but now DH and I are thinking of going out to lunch instead. I'd like to pick one on the list. Anybody have a link?

We are buying dinner tonight at a local Chinese place.

DH was going to go pick it up for me as I am in bed sick.

Is it ok that I registered my name on it but he uses his card for the purchase? We share the same card with the same number on it.

Just checking before we buy.

Anyone know?

Got my answer. DH went for lunch instead. I got the email saying I had completed all purchases towards my small business Saturday purchase.

My son bought fish at a local fish market we had never been to before and will definitely go there again. We bought bagels and salads at a local bagel store on my card and will go out to dinner at a local sushi buffet tonight using DH's card.

Only good for today right? No chance for tomorrow or another?

only good for today and you had to register your card. So if you didn't you won't get the $25 credit- but still a good idea to shop local.

We are having some take out Tai food tonight. thanks to the $25!

Well, I didn't do the "official" promotion, but I did try to shop local today, only problem is, my local stinks!!!

Shoe store-4 employees either milling singly or in a group chatting, never once offer to help, I leave, no purchase.

Dept. store-jeans nephew wants only available in flannel lined, no purchase. Dolls, only $110 or $5.99, no sale. Shoes-we no longer carry that brand (only ones I can wear due to foot issues), no sale.

Work-wear store-jeans not available in nephew's size and are twice as expensive as I can buy elsewhere, no sale.

Book store-paid full price for books (got the first book at 20% off, no other discounts, and Ma. sales tax made up the difference there), one sale.

BJ's big box store-2 dolls, a Disney Princess art/play kit and a HUGE thing of bows. Sorry local businesses, you fail!

We ended up trying a local BBQ place instead. And it was delicious! portions were huge. My total bill was $31 and it easily fed 4 of us with plenty left over for tomorrow's lunch. And best part is that it only cost me $6
