I'm thinking about adding on a small contract 25 points. I have a disney visa so would use that for the 6 mos. no interest. We love AK and will be staying at Kidani in a few weeks-I'm leaning towards AKV. But we will stay at any the DVC resorts.

What are the prices for small points? I want to go through Disney for the no closing costs and choice of use year. Thanks.

Right now, contracts less than 50, are $112./ppt at AKV, BLT, and I believe, GCV.

You may want to keep your eyes open for a resale of 50 pts.. you could probably get it for $30 per point cheaper..keep looking and you can match up your use year. $112 is an awful lot i think.

Thanks. vwlamy, what do you mean by "match up your use year"? I keep watching the resale but they are so stripped. I'll just keep checking and start saving!

Don't forget closing costs buying retail will be at least $335 (or something like that) and you aren't likely to get last year's points like you are with buying from Disney.

We just added 25 points to our BWV holdings last week at a cost of $106 per point. But, we got Oct 2008 points with that and no closing costs which would have been at least $13 per point...) AND I got the exact size contract I wanted, 25 points, and had the points immediately. No ROFR worries, no wait, no hassle. All charged to my Disney VISA (which you can't use to pay for resale contracts.)

I have October UY for all of our contracts. I wouldn't buy a Sept UY resale contract, for example. So you're not only watching the resale market for the number of points that you want, you're watching for your particular UY, too. Otherwise you get a hodgepodge of UY that are hard to manage.

This sounds like exactly what we were thinking. So if I wanted a June use year would I get June 08 points ---I'm assuming can't be banked---to be used by May 2010?

No, we're in June, so you would get June '09 points. However, if you had an October UY, you would get '08 points, those are the latest points available for an October UY.

We also have a June use year. We added on in May and got the 2008 points, which we were allowed to bank. If we had waited until June we would not have gotten those points.

I'm curious about the comment regarding no closing costs through Dinsy. Are there no closing costs on and add-on contract?

They let me bank new add-on points both times I purchased even though the banking deadline had passed

No, Disney does not currently charge closing costs on member add-ons. That's why going direct is often a better deal on small contracts, where closing costs on the resale market can easily exceed $10/pt. This is particularly true of the currently selling resorts (AKV, BLT, etc) since there is plenty of point inventory available. The older, "sold out" resorts (OKW, VWL, BWV, etc) may require you to go on a waitlist for the points & UY you want, but even then you get the closing cost savings. There is no ROFR to worry about, your points are available immediately on the newer resorts and there are numerous ways to pay for it (DVC financing, Disney Visa promo, etc).

None at all with Disney. We have done several add ons through Disney and paid no closing costs at all.

I just did this yesterday -- it was $2800 for 25 AKV points ($112 point) Kidani Dec UY. So I got my 2008 points and 2009 points. :goodvibes No closing costs and the points were in my account within about 2 hours of when I spoke to my guide. I believe that only $2500 will be 6 mos no interest but it doesn't matter as I will pay it off right away. Good luck with your decision and welcome home!

You may end up getting more than the $2500 interest free. I did a 130 point BLT add on and all of it is being given the promo of 6 months, no interest!

Good luck and congratulations!!

Thanks! I'll keep my fingers crossed.

But on the resale market, if you can get it (I never see less than 50 points on the resale market :confused3), 25 points for approximately $83 per point (which seems to be about what I see them listed for, or perhaps what they'd sell for), plus the 12.88 per point for closing ($322 closing costs/25 points = $12.88 per point) is a total of $95.88 per point. To buy through Disney it's much higher per point. We added on through Disney 4 times, each 25 point contracts. The last time we paid $104 per point at AKV. If we were ever to add on again, we would most likely add on resale to keep the cost per point down:confused3

Good luck with your decision

reading this thread has just made me realize something and now I am fully excited about the prospects...i have wanted 75 bcv points from the first time I stayed there...but wanted to pay cash and not finance:confused3 so here I have been trying to save that money for the 75points to buy direct...since every time i look at the resale market i can never find my corresponding UY...however, reading this i now realize i only need 25 points...because i can bank and borrow and will have the 75 i need to stay every so often:lovestruc:banana:

You also don't have to match your use year if you're buying resale. Our use year doesn't turn out to be particularly convenient for us (March...we often travel in Dec. or Jan.) so I might actually look for a resale with a different use year. If you budget your points completely separately, I don't see where it would be a huge issue. I believe if you purchase an add-on from Disney they will only sell you the use year you already own.....so if you want to move away from your current use year a resale would be your only choice.

IF you can find a 25 point contract in your UY on the resale market, it would likely sell at a premium. It also likely wouldn't have last year's points come with it as the contracts from Disney do. I value those points at $10 each which gets the cost per Disney and resale to be very close. In the case of my AKV add on for 100 points last week, Disney's cost was better than resale after considering incentives, no closing costs, getting prior year points to bank, etc. Not to mention the points are instant with Disney. No ROFR at all. No waiting time to get paperwork from the sellers, etc.
