SLR advice, anniversary present for DH! **UPDATE - BOUGHT A CAMERA!!**

I shouldn't talk though, I forgot my anniverasry one year. Hey, I had a newborn and I was sleep deprived.

You really like to live on the edge, don't you? If I gave Mrs. YEKCIM a Swiffer as an anniversary gift (or for any occasion, for that matter), it would be a quick trip to the ER.

Thanks so much everyone for all of the comments, opinions, and web sites!

I'm happy to say that we just got back from shopping and I bought my DH the Sony Alpha DSLR A100 and the Sony 75-300mm lens!

I had sent him a link to this thread and told him "SURPRISE!" LOL He was very, very happy and got to work on checking out all of the web sites that all of you recommended, for comparisons.

We priced the Sony around and tonight found what I think was a good deal, at Sears of all places. They had a special, the camera and the lens (the camera body comes with the 18-70mm lens) AND if you also bought the 75-300mm lens, you saved $130, which brought the total cost for both to $899.

While we were standing there about to pay I saw a flyer laying on the shelf so I looked through it and found that they're going to start a sale this Sunday which saves an additional $100. The clerk called a manager over and she told him to give us the new sale price even though it doesn't start until Sunday, but when they rang it all up, we ended up paying only $759 for everything!

PLEASE TELL ME THAT WAS A GOOD DEAL! LOL

P.S. I also bought him a 2GB memory stick.


EDITED TO ADD: You guys are cracking me up here with all of your chat about wives and forgetting anniversaries.

I just wonder what *I'll* end up getting as a present this year! (And it better not be a Swiffer!)

PS: Anyone who would buy their spouse a camera and two lenses as an anniversary gift rates MUCH more than a Swiffer, IMO.

And we recently garage-saled our Swiffer after I bought my wife a Scooba - but it wasn't an anniversary present, just a "hey, maybe we'll actually use this more often than the darn Swiffer."
