I have a tree of life on my forearm. I want to get something for my daughters and something for DL, but it's so $$$!

I had thought about getting a tattoo once, but I was too chicken. Plus, my Drs really don't want me to, I have anemia, and a very low immune system. Plus, I am afraid it will hurt too much. Another thing, is its permanent, and what if I end up hating it?

I've got 9 of them --- 7 are just simple blue dots from when I had radiation treatments for cancer. After that I decided to get something that actually meant something to me so I go two very small ones on my left shoulder above the scar from when they removed my lung. They can't be seen unless I wear a top that goes low in the back. I would totally get another but like others have said - it's gotten expensive.

I have one blue dot from my head and neck cancer radiation.

I have 3! Love them all planning the next 2, my oldest daughter and I want to get matching Lilacs on our thighs and I want one on my wrist. The three I have are: a yellow rose in the shape of a heart, with my kids first initials on the leaves, on my right back hip; a cluster of 6 open hearts on my left shoulder, the hearts each stand for my husband, myself and my 4 kids and my third is my scribble Mickey on my right inside ankle. The Mickey tattoo is shown in my profile picture. Love them all and can't wait for more. I got my first 6 years ago at 30!

I put no, I want one but that's not entirely true. I'm on the fence. My sister, who passed away two years ago, always wanted one. 4 years ago, on a huge family trip to Disbey we had our picture taken in front of the castle and it was altered to look like we were holding Tinkerbell, her favorite. So part of me wants to get one on my calf of Tinkerbell holding a butterfly. But I think I'm too much of a wimp.

I'm afraid it's not for me. It's ok for others, but I prefer not to see them (so I don't look.) I do wonder if they will fall out of favor at some point, or if their popularity will continue to grow.

I have one. It's two small roses on the inside of my ankle that have faded pretty badly since college. I have been working on designing one to cover my existing one - it will have the flowers that symbolize the months my children were born - but that has been a work in progress for about 5 years or so. I'll do it someday soon... I finally found a tattoo artist that I like and trust to do an excellent job.

I anit got any, I was even in the Navy and still didnt get any, but now I want one or two

I have 2. I got my first when I was 18 and in the military and got my second one this past January as a 51st. birthday present to myself. My recent one I just love and it represents my children. I want another for my grandchildren, but a design I would be able to add too ad I get more grand kids. I also have plans to do a big one featuring Tim "Frogman" Cotterill's bronze frog sculptures.

This is the one I got for the kids. They all chose what color they wanted to represent themselves.

DH and I both have numerous tattoos. DH pretty much has sleeves (minus a bit of color), plus his chest and his whole back. My chest is tattooed, and I have them on my calf and my forearms. Working on shoulders now.

I have a fleur-de-lis on the inside of my left foot, below my ankle. I'd like to get at least one more in the near future.

You would look good with one on those big sexy arms:banana:

I don't have any, for years I just always thought they were trashy looking on women but I'm changing my mind. I have been thinking of something small and tasteful maybe on my ankle in memory of my mom..maybe a little troll, she loved trolls or maybe a little dragon...I love dragons.

And tattoo removal is popular now too. No question it is a fad, but unlike a pet rock, a little harder to get rid of.

The definition of the word "fad" (miriam webster)

something (such as an interest or fashion) that is very popular for a short time

The key words are short time. The popularity of tattoos has been around for a long time and shows no real indication of slowing down. They gone from a fad to a cultural norm.

Heck, practically any adult under 30 WITHOUT a tattoo is outside the norm.

I have no interest in getting one, primarily because I KNOW from experience that my tastes and preferences have changed over the years...something you learn living a longer time. LOL. So, I can't imagine what I would tattoo on me that I wouldn't wish I hadn't a few years from now. The closest I could get would be *maybe* something related to my children, but I doubt it.

I certainly don't care that others want tattoos, but I do discuss with my kids that it is probably wise to get them in places that can be covered easily as some employers have feelings/requirements about them, and you don't want to limit your employment options.

I have three, a yellow rose growing out of a purple heart with a sash that says 'Mom' on my left ankle to commemorate my Mom's brave fight with cancer. Sadly on my right ankle I have a cross with a sash that says, 'In Memory of Mom.' I also have a dragonfly on my left forearm. Next Summer when I'm in Wildwood I plan on getting a tat to honor my Dad, probably on my left upper arm where it can be inked to cover my vaccination scar.

The tattoo parlors that starting sprouting up like weeds around here in the last 5 years are starting close due to the fad fading. Kind of the poster child of fad. Okay, those gourmet cupcake stores had a shorter life span.

The most disturbing thing is the shuttered tattoo parlors and cupcake stores are all being taken over by Pay Day Advance businesses.:furious:
