Unnatural Hair Color - Have You Done This and What Color????

I let a friend who was attending cosmetology school experiment on me a few times. One time when I had a full head of longer hair she bleached it and gave me a Rod Stewart shag look. And a few times for Halloween I used one of those spray-on temporary colors; blue, purple, and green. Not at the same time.

"Dyed hair in unnatural colors and extreme hairstyles are not acceptable" according to my employee handbook.

I have never colored my hair either natural or unnatural colors.

I do, though, love the look of turquoise, purple, and rainbow hair if tastefully done. I wish I could pull such a look off.

Those models are afraid to show their faces in those photos....I wonder why. ;)

Does it count if you couldn't really tell? I have dark hair naturally and it's very colour-resistant. Several times in my younger years I tried to do semi-permanent rinses in sapphire blue and deep purple. The results were barely noticeable. :sad1:

No.

However, if I were young, and if I had long dark hair the blond tips I've seen some wearing for some reason look attractive to me, and I may have worn this style.

When I was in college, I volunteered to be in a Clairol training show. You had to be willing to let them do whatever they wanted. They shaved my sides and back and bleached stripes on the top which they then colored hot pink. This was the 80's, so there was some wild hair going on then, but the only issue was that a month after the hair show I was a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding. My SIL was furious, and still is quite sensitive about my hair in her wedding pictures :rotfl2:

I have done a streak of hot pink, and dark purple a few times, but my all time favorite hair color was when I went platinum. My hair was almost white, sadly it only lasted a year before my hair rebelled and I had to dye it back to my natural color.

My 11yr old wants to have her hair ends (approx 3") pink.
She has dishwater blonde hair, and I know it will be super cute, but I don't know if I'm ready for the heavy criticism I'm going to get from my mom and in-laws:rolleyes:.

I would definitely let her do it because now is the time for her to experiment. My DD is blonde and had a teal feather in her hair that actually looked like a piece of hair. If your DD's school doesn't allow unnatural colors, let her do it for the summer. It's just the ends and she can get it trimmed off before school starts if she has to.

Tell all your critics that it's just hair- you didn't get her a tattoo or a piercing!

Oh I feel you on that. This is the reason I only did steaks of pink in my hair, since I had to bleach it. My hair is a dark brown and has been a thorn in my side when I wanted to dye my hair. Box colors just don't cut it if I want something nice. On top of it, it's super thick. It's a long process.

BTW if we're counting more natural dyes, I've been blonde as well as an auburn red. I will NEVER go blonde again. I just can't pull that off.

I have a section of teal in my hair and I just turned 47. Due to budget cuts, my job was cut so I am looking for a new job as soon as the school year is over. I think I will be going back to one color since I will be going on job interviews.

My cousin is a beautician, and when I was in my 20's she wanted to put a burgundy tint/highlight in my hair. I went from having almost waist-length hair to having it cut to my nape. It was a shock to my family and to the guys at work (I was a secretary to the maintenance crew & we had about 300 guys). Not only that, the burgundy tint was more than just a tint. I was the "girl with the purple hair" for quite awhile. I think I let it just grow out.

I was born with red hair but it just turned a dark blondish auburn as I grew. I started cutting and dying my hair in High School and my mom liked it a bright burgundy the best. My hair has been blonde, orange *oops*, burgundy, magenta, dark brown, black, streaked, cut super short to waist length. It is about 4 inches short of waist length in the back now and i have silver hairs peeking through at the sides.

My daughter has deep rich waist length curls (my husband is half Basque and she gets her coloring from him) and she likes to dye her hair really dark red or black. :)

I loved reading about all of the variations on hair color in this thread! :D

I never have, but if I had a daughter I would let her. I don't worry about criticism from others over my children's hair. My boys like long hair. My oldest has very long red hair. It's way past his shoulders. Grandparents hate it! He gets called miss on a regular basis when we are out in public. It doesn't phase him. My youngest doesn't go that long, but he often has it pretty long. Two of his teachers have offered to cut it for him.

I just think it's only hair. As long as they keep it clean they can have it the way they like. It can be changed easily if needed. Someday they will probably need to cut it for a job or whatever. For now it's fine.

I never have...and didn't let my daughters use color or highlights, until they were in high school.

After high school, my son let his hair grow out. I hated it, but I respected his wishes, and didn't bug him or try to guilt him about it. I did tell him that it might hinder his chances at getting a job, and he got one that very day. He was very happy to tell me that I was wrong. lol Eventually, he graduated college, and cut his hair. When he showed me I started crying. He just patted my head. :) I really admired his spirit that as long as he felt that it was right for him, he didn't let my personal feelings sway him. I was proud of him for that. (Still am)

My daughter has colored her hair, or had it streaked different colors. It doesn't affect her job, either, and I figure it's just hair. She can always color it again, or cut it if she needs to.

I did use a bottle of sun-in one summer. That produced an unnatural color on me LOL
