Slobs & rude people at the pools

One question though, and I don't mean to be snarky here but I'm curious, did you have your table 'reserved' for that entire time too? I know there's a difference between sitting at the pool and actually using your table, and leaving the bag as a place holder, but I would hope that you were also 'sharing the wealth' and letting other families use YOUR table when needed as well. I don't think it's courteous to have any ONE family using a table for the entire day - whether they're present or not. Paying it forward applies to everyone (IMHO).

ETA - I understand that some people may have a sensitivity to the sun, or other medical conditions where they need to be in the shade. But for those who do not have such medical conditions, I would hope that they are sharing the tables with their 'neighbors' when needed.

Actually, someone is always at the table the entire time. Our party this time consisted of 7 individuals. We had 4 chairs & 3 loungers for my DD's. Unless we are in the restroom, getting a snack, or taking a dip in the pool we are sitting in the chairs.

For us a "dip in the pool" is just that also. We would get in the pool near the slide, swim to the other side, get out near the "main entrance" & walk around back to our seat. It's usually only my DD's & I that do this - my DH & parents very rarely get in the pool, so honestly, there is someone occupying those seats for the entire day.

If we had room at our table, I would be more than happy to share with someone. In fact, one day my DH even tried to sit with another family - thinking he was sitting with my dad I think it was the funnies moment of the vacation!!!

I wanted to mention that we've encountered these same issues at resorts outside WDW. We had to send DH down to the pool to get chairs (he sat right there though, didn't leave a towel and come back) at the Ft.Lauderdale resort we stayed at and in Myrtle Beach. Those chair takers are everywhere.

many resorts in MB now have pool staff who swoop down on unattended towels placed down 1st thing in the am

besides when they come to collect their stuff - they will have to talk to the security guards who should ask why they left their items so long unattended

hopefully that will make them think next time they try this.

naw, some people u just can't reach...they'll be the ones whining here about somebody stealing their stuff, never would cross their teeny minds that it was confiscated for being a chair hog

im amazed disney doesn't have cabanas @ all the resorts (easy enough way to guarantee a prime spot if it's all that important to you) or a special upgrade @ checkin, deluxe pool seating, special reserved area & a chaise lounge guaranteed! 'oh, cabana boy, i'll take a frozen smoothie, heavy on the vodka please'

jmho, if they would be more prudent checking ids (ala stormalong bay) or insists guest wear the wristband, it'd probably cut down dramatically this sort of problem

I AGREE!!! The cabanas are great! And then, imo, it's really OK for ONE family to be there all day because they paid to rent the space! Otherwise, I really think that it's just polite to let others use the tables too, even if someone from your party is sitting there at all times. You know, it's like thinking of others too...not just yourself. Being a good neighbor. Being kind to your fellow man. You get the picture.

Disney by no means has the cornered the market on these folks - not to be a "Cruise snob" but try that form of vacation if you want to see people who where raised by wild animals..

no, I take that back, almost all animals clean up after themselves one way or another...

People in this type of vacation run out first thing in the morning and stuff a towel and a few articles of personal junk they don't care if they loose, like a dirty hair brush or a crappy book and stuff it on the prime chairs near the pool, then they wander off for 4 or 5 hours to do whatever, to come back and get really ugly when their chair is taken..I have personally witnessed near fist fights over chairs..isn't this a vacation??

Now, if you just went to the washroom and someone ditched your stuff, then okay, but how do you tell???

I guess what is really upsetting and liable to set off another fire storm here in this thread is the supposidly adult or quiet pools at a couple of the resorts and the extremely rude folks and their children who use them as their personal bath water..yes, all kids are excitable at pools - don't flame me for that - but doing a cannonball really close to an older swimmer is just plain poor upbringing...

And lets not even talk about how some people act around the buffets...geeez..there is always more food coming.....

Maybe the same posters who think its rude to notice what's happening around you expect others to look away when there kids are drowning ore maybe are walking on the street.
It's so rude to notice what others are doing and please mind you own business.

Yes people are very rude, we've become this way as a society and not just at WDW. Some people just think they are more special than the rest of us. I was at the Beach Club last summer and one day at the pool a similar thing happened. There was a huge argument and two people left in tears. I know it would be hard, but I think Disney should try and do something about this. If people are away from there chairs for over an hour their stuff should be removed and put somewhere for them to pick up. If this rule was enforced, soon everyone would know about it. I know, I know it probably is unrealistic, but it would be nice.

This is one reason I don't use the pools that much..too much aggravation when there's a YMCA at home about 3 miles from me that has a perfectly nice pool.

If I do use the resort pool, I go at night.

Kudos to the OP for moving the rude people's stuff..I might have carried it one step further, and tossed it INTO the pool.

I am nosy, I admit to it. I'm also the type that if I see someone getting grief from someone else(like a CM or another guest) I open my big fat mouth..So what? That's why these idiots usually act like that..they've gone through life with people letting their obnoxious, toxic behavior slide. Make no mistake, I call it like I see it, and I'm NOT shy about it either.

people seem to have gotten off track of the original topic.
It is about a few who save tables/chairs and leave to who knows where for hours.
Those amenities are meant for the guests who are using the facilities at that time. Not so they can have a place later when they return from the parks or lunch/dinner.

Oh, that's the most ludicrous thing I've heard all day. Being prepared for something is in no way, shape or form the same thing as hoping for it.

I personally am prepared for a house fire, various medical emergencies, for my spouse or I to lose our jobs, for our house to go into negative equity, and for my mother-in-law to visit. That doesn't mean that I am hoping for any of those things to happen.

If you don't return to your chair to relax or reset the dial, your items are automatically ejected from said chair. On a more serious side, I agree with the OP. Those people were just rude. I don't know if I would have had the cahoona's to move their stuff myself, but I'm sure the family looking for the table greatly appreciated her actions.

I would be too busy minding my own business than watching the clock all day and keeping track of who was coming and going. I go to Disney to have fun and relax, not keep tabs on strangers - THAT is rude!

You've got to be kidding me right? Sheesh doesn't take much for someone to notice that a table has been empty for hours right next to you. Guess you rather leave it there and let some poor family have no where to sit. Now THAT IS RUDE.

I have no problem with MELSMICE's actions given the situation. The belongings were still treated respectfully, still left next to the table. Problem with society today is that too many people tend to "look the other way" instead of helping out their fellow man. The world is getting more and more selfish IMHO. Good for MELSMICE .

Your on vacation, ..it's time to unwind. Almost everyone around you is or should be in rather high spirits. If it's that important to someone to park it in one spot when there are so many things to be enjoyed .....

But in reality, I'll moved my butt & my family just because a group around me can be annoying for whatever reason.

So, if I you see an available spot & it's really crowded. You size up the area you'd like to use. Either it still looks fresh from use or can see the obvious planting of one or couple of expendable items and unused towels. Then I'd probably ask someone next to the area if they been there for awhile & if they'd seen anyone in the spot in question for awhile. Next thing you know, I'm gonna be sitting there or moving on to next spot we might desire at the moment.

We're all just visiting & if no one has paid for there "cabana spot", then it should be easy come & easy go.
