I like both, but we buy sweet because that's what I grew up with. (I love dill pickles more than sweet pickles, but dill relish always surprises me. It's good, but not "right" if you know what I mean.)
I would Never put relish on a hot dog (?)
Chili yes / sauerkraut yes - mustard yes - miracle whip yes / ketchup yes - not all together mind you -
Finding a hot dog I like now since they stopped making my all time favorite seems impossible - I’m about to just give up
I use sweet relish - but I mainly only use it when I’m making sauces - for devil eggs / potato salad - etc - otherwise I would just break out the pickles
I sometimes put relish on my hot dog, and we have sweet in the fridge now. (I don't even think I've noticed dill as an option at the store. I should probably pay more attention. )
I like relish on frankfurters and in other things, like tuna salad. I’m not sure which kind I buy; whatever looks good when I need it.
Decades ago my area sold that nuclear green emerald relish but I haven’t seen it in the longest time. There is no natural substance on earth that color. The photo really doesn’t do it justice. I snuck a jar of it in my luggage the last time I was in Chicago.
But DH and the kids do like them both. In the last year or two I've been known to unwillingly eat a hot dog with relish and mustard. I don't care what kind of relish or mustard, just something to mask the burnt bologna-esqueness. Blech.
I thought when you're a grown up you don't have to eat food you don't like. I was wrong.
Yes - definitely sweet relish and ketchup on a hotdog, always. And I always have a jar at home to use in tuna salad, egg salad and devilled eggs and anything else mayo-based.
