Why, oh why, am I talking about Christmas shopping in the summer? Because today is officially 6 months away from Christmas, which is crazy to think about. This year is just flying by at warp speed. Many of us start thinking about buying Christmas presents already for a various reasons - to avoid rushing later, to spread out the money you spend, to avoid crowds later, take advantage of sales and etc. So let’s get in the Christmas spirit and talk about out buying those Christmas gifts….

Do you start buying Christmas gifts in the summer?
If yes…..,why do you start shopping early?
(multiple choice)

For Me……,Yes, I most absolutely starting shopping for Christmas in the summer. I got in the habit of shopping early when I worked retail for 25 years and Christmas time was my busiest time of year - I’d work well over 50 hours a week, so shopping is something I didn’t want to do when I wasn’t working. My DH, DD21 and I love going to craft fairs & farmer’s markets and I enjoy buying Christmas gifts at those. The gifts are fun & creative and I like supporting the people selling them. Some years I score big and find many gifts and some years I come up short and find very little. I just need to write down where I put things or I’ll forget :rolleyes2

I don't shop for Christmas in the summer. There may have been a rare occasion when I saw something during a vacation that I bought for someone for Christmas, but that was rare. I don't know what anyone would want.

I shop for Christmas in the summer I shop for Christmas year round if I see something I snap it up like you if I’m in a crowd fair and I see something I grab it if I see a good sale on items that I’m going to be buying for someone for Christmas and it’s in the middle of summer I grab it because it’s not like you’re buying Christmas items for somebody for Christmas you’re purchasing all kinds of different items I also have a lot of fall and right after Christmas birthdays so I’m also looking for gifts for those and if I see something that I think was a good idea for a gift and it’s on sale I’ll snatch that up and then put it somewhere and hopefully remember where I put it
And if maybe the Christmas gift is a trip then I will be buying items in the summer that go with the trip for like stocking stuffers etc. so yeah you gotta get the sales when you can get them
And if it’s anything to do with DISNEY you have to buy it when you see it because if you wait it may be gone

I'm one who shops year-round--if I see something that someone would like, I pick it up. I also tend to by things where I am--if we go to a vacation spot, I'll grab something, regardless of the season.

This year, it looks like I'll be having foot surgery this fall. It requires a 3-month recovery during which I won't be able to drive--I'll be in a boot with a knee scooter. Good times! But, it sure would put a damper on Christmas activities, from trimming the tree to shopping to baking. So, I'm trying to do as much as I can in advance (and hoping I can put off the surgery until Jan.).

I’ll only buy a “Christmas gift” so far in advance in the rare case where I encounter something special or unusual for the intended recipient.

I buy when I see something, but it is usually later in August before I start looking.
We have 3 birthdays in the summer, so I am still working on those.
DD's is Sunday......done with that.
DGS's is in July.....almost done, awaiting some arrivals
DS's is in August ....haven't started but have some ideas....waiting for Prime days.

Then after that my brain will move to Christmas

 Nope - for me the idea is laughable. Although I love Christmas and partake joyfully in every aspect, at this point of the year I consider it a “future-Annette problem” and don’t have time or energy to give it.

No. If I happened to see something very unique and perfect for DH or DS, I might pick it up, but would give it earlier, for birthday or anniversary (both which come before Christmas), or sometimes just because (for no occasion).

The rest of my family does a Christmas gift exchange where we pick names, which we usually do sometime in the fall. So I don’t know who I’m buying for yet.

I shop year round. In January I was able to do the gift buying for my grandson who will be 13 months old at Christmas. Lots of learning toys at 90% off. I stick to wooden toys so little chance of anyone getting a duplicate and if he does I will pass what I bought to a local charity.

:rotfl2:That's great! I may borrow that phrase!!!

I'm not a Christmas shopper till it's the holiday season myself. We've moved onto that season in life where we gift our adult kids $$$ or travel, plus my husband and I don't exchange usually beyond some items in our stockings. We don't exchange with our siblings or my folks either, so I'm currently not buying alot anyhow. We will have our first grandchild this year but she'll still be quite young - I'm thinking NEXT Christmas is where we start to buy for young kids again.

I'm an all-year-round Christmas shopper! I have a couple of designated hiding spots, and I buy things that I think people would love as I see them and just toss them in there. Sometime in the early fall, I'll take inventory and make a list of what presents I still need to buy.

DW does something similar, she spots something someone would like and she buys it. I don't really buy Christmas gifts as she takes care of it, for which I'm eternally grateful:)

I wait. My kid's interest changes a lot in 6 months. One year I shopped the summer prime deals regretted it lol.

Well, with Amazon, Target, and Walmart (among others) having their huge sales the beginning of July, I will be eyeing them with the holidays in mind. I don’t always start holiday shopping in the summer, but sometimes you have to if that is when the item is released. Christmas in July!

I only buy gifts for my grand daughter and that's usually closer to Dec. since she is a growing toddler that changes her mind about her newest obsession every other day. I give my son and his SO a gift card. Hubby and I don't exchange gifts and we stopped buying for other family years ago. Hubby used to give his parents money and they gave him money and it was just silly so we put our foot down on that.

I LOVE shopping and I LOVE Christmas. But! I don’t shop early. I’m one of those crazies who likes to get out and about in the holiday hustle and pick out my gifts during the festive season. 🎄⛪🎁

I no longer buy Christmas gifts. But when my daughters were young I tried the buy things early thing and it blew up in my face a couple times when I’d have several (insert item here) and by Christmas they no longer liked that thing.

NEVER! I just can't fathom it. #1 Where would I put everything. #2 I'd have to remember where I put those things. #3 I might find something later on that suits them better. #4 I like getting gift ideas from the person. I pay attention to things a person would say they are interested in or things they enjoy.

I think the earliest I've started would be OCT.
