Shopping for a new mattress is always difficult, unless you want the exact same mattress that you already have. You need to lay on them while having the awkwardness of having others watch you do that. You can’t totally lay on it like you would at home. You can’t lay on it in your normal sleeping position for any great length of time. You can’t put it back into a box and return it, like a new pair of shoes, if it doesn’t work out. The process kinda stresses me out - LOL! While preparing for this poll, I found there are different firmness levels which are…..

So….we’re talking about your mattress firmness level today, which ties into Monday’s poll about how many hours of sleep you get. So give us a good firm answer today……

Do you sleep on a traditional mattress?
If yes…..what is the firmness level?
If no……do you have a Sleep Number or Tempur-Pedic

For Me…..,We do not have a traditional mattress, we have a Sleep Number, and we love it! We’ve had it for 21 years now, and I hope nothing happens to it, because they are a lot more expensive now than when we bought ours in 2004. My Sleep Number is 60, which would be on the cuff of medium to firm on a regular mattress 🙂👍🏻

We have a traditional mattress that we bought from The Original Mattress Factory. We have bought our last two mattresses there. It’s pretty firm and it’s not ideal for me. I agree with you @slo. It’s a large dollar purchase and not a great experience buying it.

We have a Purple mattress. Since it's sort of a foam/coil hybrid it's hard to describe. When it came time for a new mattress we went to all the stores locally and laid on every single mattress. We narrowed it down between the Sleep Number and the Purple. The Purple felt just a tad more comfortable for me, I have a bad back and bad hips. We have had it for maybe 5 years now. It's fine, better than a regular mattress and box springs but if I had it to do over we probably wouldn't buy it. Why? You have to buy the sheets from them. I've tried a number of different ones that are supposed to fit and none do. Even if you buy them from Purple, unless you buy the original stretchy ones, they don't fit properly. I tried some cotton ones directly from Purple and they do not fit. I bought some from Amazon that were supposed to be Purple brand, which they were but I'm guessing they were misfits. If you buy the original stretchy ones from Purple (they have spandex in them) it costs about $200. I don't like the fact that they have pretty much made it where I can't buy anything else and get them to fit the bed. A fact we weren't told when we bought it. We have one of the mattress in a box type for our RV. I can't remember the brand we got but they are made specifically to fit RV beds. I think that one might even be a tad more comfortable than the Purple one and it cost a heck of a lot less.

Oh I’m one of those people that lay in my sleeping position and I lay there for a good 20 to 30 minutes I’m all over those mattresses for that kind of money and because I have a spinal cord injury I want a good decent mattress that’s not gonna make my back hurt any worse than it already does I bought a mattress 10 years ago and within two years I got rid of it because I couldn’t stand it so when I went shopping for a new mattress me and that sales woman were laying on all the mattresses we were probably a good 2 1/2 hours before I finally picked up my current mattress and I’m in love with it
It is a traditional mattress it is a pillow top and I would put it at medium firm I myself would love to have a soft mattress but that’s not gonna work for my back
I hope this mattress last me a lifetime I know it won’t but I wish it would because they have gotten ridiculously expensive I may have to sell a kidney to get a new one🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Firm but with a pillow top. And there’s the problem - modern mattresses aren’t flippable and within months, the memory-foam pillow tops on even the finest brands are permanently dented (which is a condition excluded from the useless 20 year warranties). We’re on our second in 10 years and it literally makes me angry to think about. Not sure how I’ll find one but our next mattress will be some sort of hotel one - they never seem to have those dents and many are extremely comfortable.

I bought a memory foam mattress to replace the mattress in my RV. I found that I liked that mattress more than the one I had at home so decided to also replace my mattress at home with the same. I'm honestly not sure where it rates on firmness but I'd say it's probably kinda middle of the road on that.

Traditional mattress here, firm. Need a new one. Have thought of Sleep Number, but not sure if those work well for a side sleeper.

I have a very soft mattress which I love. I always compare it to the black couches at the Brown
Derby in their entrance which are hard to stand up from.

It's a traditional mattress. I'm not sure where it came from-my cousin bought it for the trundle bed that pulled out from under her bed and it was too big so she gave it to me because I was in need of one. I sleep in a twin with a 3 inch memory foam topper. I like to be comfortable and sink into the topper. Whenever I sleep in a bed without one, my back kills me the next day.

I have an extra plush hybrid mattress. I thought I would like it but find it too soft. I think I’d prefer a medium firm pillow top innerspring mattress.
