I don’t know how it is by you, but by me there are storage garage places everywhere - literally everywhere. Which leads me to ask…..

Do you have a storage garage? (one you pay for - a rental unit)
If yes…,what size is it?
Is it air conditioned?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..We do not have one, but we used to about 5 years ago. We needed one after we closed our store to put leftover stuff in. We eventually went through that stuff, and got rid of a lot, and then we didn’t need the storage garage anymore. We have a little storage area in our backyard that we keep some stuff in. The only way I would get a storage garage now is if we were moving and needed somewhere to put things when trying to sell the house. Outside of that, I have no need for one - I’m trying to eliminate extra stuff in my house and not bring extra stuff in - I’m done with extra stuff - LOL!

We don't have one now, but I have rented one in the past. When I was in my mid-20s, I was in a situation where I needed to move back home for a period of time, so I put all my furniture and stuff into a storage unit for a few months while I was living with my Mom.

Many many years ago between houses we had one - but not since - I’m trying to get rid of things myself / if kids would take their stuff it would help !!! Then I’d just gave ALL my stuff to deal with 🤣🤣

yes, we've had one now for several (probably 6 or 7) years now.....every so often, we'll talk about how we need to get rid of it, because the price keeps going up. We got it not that long after we cleaned out my parents' houses, but maybe only half of the items in it is from those houses. I maybe only kept about 5% of their things. (they had a lot of stuff.) DH and I are both 'collectors,' and we also have stuff. It's a small, outdoors unit. I do so want to try and get rid of it this year. It's not stuffed to the gills, and it would be nice to get it cleaned out, and and save that monthly fee.

I think the only time we rented one was when we had college kids for local college storage.

Don't currently have a storage unit. The only time I had one was when I transitioned from college to my career. I had six weeks of training where housing was taken care of and I didn't know where I was moving to after it finished.

Yes, we have a storage unit.
All our holiday decorations are in it.....lots.
Also some old memorabilia.
Some of DD's things.
Too hot here to store these things in a garage or attic.
It is 10x10 and is air conditioned

I’ve never used one. We have an attic, a basement and a garage to store stuff and if they are full, it’s time to purge. In certain situations, I could see renting one temporarily, but only for a few months.

We have one now because we're moving. Got it in April when we were getting ready to list our house. Things that were stored in our basement went in the unit as well as out of season coats and clothes to empty out our closets. We'll get rid of it next month when we move into our new house.

Yes, when I was living in a small older apartment and needed the extra storage for sentimental items and holiday decor. It freed up a ton of room in my one and only closet. Worth the expense.

On the flip side, my father kept a large one for many years. When he passed away, my sister and I needed to clean it out and close the account. We were worried that it was going to be packed to the gills… instead it was a few boxes. Mostly his old clothes that were too large, and 2 boxes of mementos from our grandfather. We were glad it wasn’t a lot to go through, but also sad that he paid $300+ a month to store things that could have fit in his home. We could have helped him move it, and he had friends that would help him with heavy lifting. Oh well. What’s done is done, but that was a waste of money!

I chose Other because we have an actual garage that we use for storage. It's not attached to the house; it's at the end of our driveway. My aunt has either visited or lived in this house for forty-five years and never remembers anyone parking a car in there. It was always for storage.

When we lived in the city we used storage because our apartment (studio) was tiny. No room for our equipment so we had a small storage unit which was cheaper than getting a larger apartment just to fill a room with our gear. Now we have a garage.

We had one for a few months when we were moving our business and it only stored business items.

Our home garage is basically used for storage though—no cars fit although there is a boat. Basically we use it as a shed—lawnmowers, bikes, tools.

We have a large climate controlled indoor storage unit. It holds all our holiday decorations, beach stuff, old furniture dh won’t part with and other large items. We have lots of storage in our house but unfortunately we also have lots of stuff (5 kids plus us and dh won’t throw anything away). It’s pretty expensive at $260 per month which I find absurd but we need it. We only visit a few times a year and it’s always a chore because we have to move everything around to get to what we need.

We had one for a little over a year while our house was being built. We were living in a furnished rental during construction, so the moving van simply unloaded into the storage unit, and then we hired local movers when the house was done to move from the storage unit into the house. Our unit was indoors, climate controlled, and treated for pests.

In the future, we plan on renting out our house and traveling the world for 2-3 years. The problem is what we'll do with our keepsakes and other things we want to keep back in storage. We'll need a rental unit, but the size of the rental unit is going to be important. We're going to have to be pretty ruthless and it's going to be painful.
