SB squares and other “big game” squares are a huge fundraiser in my area. The school band groups sell them and usually each of the class after prom committees at the high school. I haven’t bought one yet this year. If there are any available this week, I might buy one. It adds a little fun to the game. I have won in the past.

We used to play them every year when my husband was in the military. His base would set it up. I won once, and my husband won a few times.

They are fun! I miss the squares, except if I got a 5 or a 2. 🙄

No clue about what those are or how they work.

Can someone explain? Thanks.

design_mom explained it upthread, but basically, you're given a box on a grid with 0-9 randomly assigned on the top and side of the grid. If the numbers you have (say, 1 for the home team and 4 for the visitors) is the score at the end of a quarter or the end of the game, you win. So, given the numbers I mentioned, the final score of the game was 21-14, you'd win,

Most of the ones that I've played give a smaller amount for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarter and the largest prize for the end of the game totals. Most groups that do it for fundraiser will keep 1/2 for the organization and 1/2 for prizes, so if there's $100 collected ($1 a square), $50 goes back to those who bought squares and $50 goes to the charity / organization.

Thank you. I should have read the whole thread before I asked the question.

I participate in some way every year and have won a few times for the quarters and halftime, but never final score.

Just ran into my DH at work and he had his in his hands, ha! I used to get into the company one, but it has been years. Looks like he took my place!

(He got 0-3 and like 0-7, too....so...fingers crossed!)

I haven’t bought one, but my DH almost certainly has. We are almost always rooting for certain numbers rather than a team.

When you sign up all you see is a 10 by 10 grid. You sign up and pay for as many squares as you like by putting your name or initials in the square. After the squares are filled the numbers are drawn and filled in. The numbers are the last digit of that team's score. So if you end up with 7 Niners and 4 Chiefs, you win if the score at the end of the game (or half or quarter if that's what you're playing) is 17-14 niners, 27-24 niners, or 24-17 chiefs. As long as the last digits for that team are scored, you win. You don't actually need to know anything to win and knowing something doesn't really help you.

Not this year, but I have in the past. Someone ran it at work a while back.

I don't frequent places that do this anymore, but in my misspent youth I lost a lot of- and won some- money doing this. Always fun, as it gives someone who doesn't know much about football a fair chance to get in on a friendly wager.

You don't frequent places that do squares? Well Leebee, if you're ever in lower Michigan come by my house or my sister's.......these are the only places I've ever filled in Football Squares for the Super Bowl and at New Year's the Rose Bowl. :goodvibes

When we were in the office before the pandemic hit and we became remote they used to do squares for playoff games and the SB. The last few years our local zoo has done one for SB and I buy 2 squares.

I got 2 squares for $5 a piece at my work and DH got one for $10 at his work.
We never win but it’s fun trying especially since neither team is ours. I may as well cheer on Taylor’s boyfriend. 🏈

I bought 2 from the fire department that I support. It is a fund raiser for their drill team. They have 2 different boxes going. I bought 1 from my niece for the fire department she belongs to a vollie. I bought from 2 different people at the bowling alley. I think 1 of them supports an animal rescue.

I have bought in the past few years. My husband won the very first one we ever did. It was from my sister in law's work. (I actually started working there about a year later, LOL) So I have bought from work mostly but my nephews baseball and or hockey teams do them too. That's where I bought them from this year. I won my work one last year.
