I won’t say I am ambidextrous as that implies you can do everything with both hands, but my dominant hand depends on the task I am doing. I write left handed. I use scissors right handed (can’t even cut with left handed scissors in my left hand). There are a lot of things I do specifically with one hand or the other, but can’t do with both.

You don’t 🤣 The side of my hand constantly had ink in it when I was in school.

I’m a lefty. So is DH and my mom. We all use the 10-key right handed.

I did learn to write with my right hand when I broke my left arm in 6th grade, but it’s not any quality I’d brag about.

What is 10-key right handed mean?

How do left handed people write without smearing ink?
You don’t, even though I write with my hand curled around, the side of my hand still rubs what I’ve written and was always dark with ink or pencil LOL. Thankfully almost everything is typing now.

Like a 10-key adding machine. I use it with my right hand, too. It was actually convenient because I could use the adding machine with my right while I wrote down data with my left. Idk, do righty’s 10-key with their right or left?

Most of the time I am right handed. If I am dealing cards I can only do it left handed. Watching me do it right handed is a big laugh.

This is me. I write lefty and eat righty. I can only use scissors with my right hand—cannot use lefty scissors at all. Bat lefty, throw lefty and although I write lefty, if I am using an eyeliner pencil , I can only do it with my right hand. Very odd. The first time I try something new, I have to try it with both hands to see which works better—particularly anything athletic. Oldest DD is very left handed—does nothing right handed. Middle and youngest DD’s are right handed like DH although youngest DD is pretty athletic and does almost as well throwing and kicking with the opposite hand/foot.

I am an odd lefty, in that I write with my hand below the writing, instead of curled around above. My dad was a lefty, and he almost exclusively printed instead of using cursive, and he did not curl his hand around either. So it was many years before I saw a lefty writing that way.

I am a Lefty. I can do some things right-handed . Hitting a golf ball ( but can putt either way in Miniature Golf)or softball I do as a Righty. I use regular scissors with either hand. Never liked lefty scissors as a child in school.
My Parents are right handed as is my Sis. My Mom's Dad was left-handed, but growing up in the beginning of the 1900s was forced to be right-handed. It left him with a slight stutter the rest of his life. Due to his experience they never tried to change me. Hardest thing to learn as a child was tying my shoes🤔. Guessing it was how they did it didn't work for me.

Neither my mom or I curve our hand around, but DH does. It always looks so uncomfortable!

I do however always write at a slant, no matter how hard I try. I need guide lines on paper for everything. :rotfl:

I am right-handed... I have tried to learn to use my left hand for writing and stuff, but I just cannot do it well.

I am left handed but do some things with my right hand.

The worst thing about growing up left handed was was being forced to use the right handed desks in school! I literally had nowhere to put my paper to write on!

I had to have my DH teach my oldest and my DS how to tie their shoes because I just couldn’t figure out how to do it right handed.

I do everything with a slant. It’s a running joke in my family. I will swear something is perfectly straight but no matter how hard I try it never is.

I would sit sideways, almost backwards but not all teachers allowed that. No matter how you did it your arm was always floating in space.

I’m right-handed, as is my husband. My older son is left-handed. He also has double hair whorls, which is interesting because those two things are genetically linked. The baby is looking like he will probably be right-handed. I’ve read that cats are another species that show strong left or right preference, but I keep forgetting to watch my cats to see if they’re right-or-left pawed.

I also write below and have never curved my hand around. I remember trying to “curve around” when I was a kid entering school once I realized that was how other left handers did it, but it never felt right to me.

When I worked with Kindergartners way back before the pandemic, we would often get students at the beginning of the year who had never held a pencil or crayon. When we started trying to teach them to write, they would use one hand and then the other. We didn't know which was their dominant hand nor did their parents. I came up with an idea to watch them in the cafeteria and see which hand they ate with, as we usually pick up food or eat with our dominant hand. So we would watch them and then encourage them to use that hand in their writing. The sad point of this is that these kids were five years old and were never taught to draw or color or try to write prior to going to Kindergarten.
