I’ve been wanting to do this topic for awhile, because I’m really curious on A.) If I’m the only one that has never bought Plantains and B.) What in the heck does someone do with Plantains.

The questions for today….

Have you ever bought Plantains?
If no, have your spouse or SO bought Plantains?
How about family members?
Do you eat them alone or use them in a recipe?
(multiple choice)

*Please post what you do with Plantains - enquirering minds want to know.

For Me…..I’ve never bought them and I could Google what to do with them, but posting a poll is more fun. I also have never ate them anywhere.

ONG Slo - they are delicious you don’t know what you’re missing I have them at Gloria Estefan ‘s restaurant at Disney springs years ago they are delicious then buying them ever since
I’ve had them in Jamaica several times
You need to get some and try them! Do not eat them raw!! You must cook them

I have never bought plantains. I do not really recall ever eating them. I never have really liked bananas (I can eat them, but they just don't thrill me), so I never made the effort to jump into the world of plantains. They might be worth trying though, especially since they are cooked I hear.

I voted other. Plantains are not on our regular grocery list, but we will always order them when we go out for Cuban food. Fried plantains = yum! And DH is a fan of Trader Joe's Plantain Chips, so he buys those often. Sometimes we mix them with a bag of banana chips so we get sweet and salty with each handful.

I love plantains. I never buy them or prepare them myself, but I used to love getting them at the cuban restaurant that is sadly now closed. I am usually up for them if they are on a menu somewhere.

I've never bought plantains themselves, but I have bought the Goya frozen ones that are already seasoned and cooked (tostones, maduros). I've eaten them in restaurants, too.

I have a favorite local restaurant, featuring Cuban and Peruvian dishes that most often include plantains as a side - just not my cup of tea - and I remove them.

If you visit Downtown Disney after Porto's Bakery opens, try the plantain balls. They are plantain on the inside and black beans on the outside -- sweet, starchy, and a little tart (lime?). Very tasty!

I’ve never bought a plantain. I have tried them at Gloria Esteban’s restaurant (Bongos) at Disney Springs many years ago and they were ok. I have an idea of how to cook them as I’ve seen them prepared on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

I grew up eating plantains. Makes a great snack and the blacker in skin colour, the sweeter and tastier when pan fried.
