Ugghhh…..,passwords. So Many. Passwords!
At one time they were pretty easy to remember, because they didn’t need to be very complicated. Today, they need to be a certain length, they need a certain amount of characters, they need to have a capital letter, they need a certain amount of numbers and then in 6 months some places make you change it, so remembering them all seems almost impossible. Because of this, it’s best to write them down, unless you have an incredible memory. Some people use a notebook, some people have a special password book, others may just have a piece of paper and others wing it and try to remember them. So, without giving to much away, tell us how you keep track of your passwords today.

I was going to ask if you use a website that uses a password, but I decided against it, because you are using this website and it requires a password, so everyone will be a yes.

Are you organized with keeping track of your passwords?
If yes….,how?
If no…..do you try to memorize them all?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I am organized with my passwords and I use a password book. At one time, over 10 years ago, I just kept them on a piece of paper (I still have that paper). Then, one day I saw in a catalog (when I still got catalogs in the mail) this book for passwords, and I immediately ordered it. I started using it the day I got it and never stopped using it. It’s got a lot of white out in it, since the passwords change, but that’s ok, it’s an important part of my bill paying process every month. The password book is important for many things, not just bill paying. I refer to that little book all the time - it’s very handy.

I also keep certain passwords in the notes section of my phone, in case I need them when I travel. I don’t always need to refer to it, but there have been times I was grateful to have them.

I do have a surprising amount of them memorized, but they are still written down in the password book.

I have a book one for home and one for work so many passwords it’s insane - it’s funny when I have to give somebody one of my passwords at work so they can get into something I have my own personal system in certain sites get certain passwords this start with certain words that I can’t type on here and I always hate having to say well here’s the password and they’re like why did you use that word because it’s not a pretty word and again I can’t type that word on here and I’ll say because this site is extremely difficult on setting up a password so if it’s an extremely difficult site on setting up a password it gets nasty words for the password and the more difficult site the more nasty birds I will use in some sites get all the nasty words in my password and then they get lots of symbols 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I keep all of my passwords in an Excel off-line file on my PC and also periodically print a hard copy. I never use any online application to store passwords. Seems like a really bad idea and likely one of the sites hackers would target. Why make it easier for them to get all of your passwords if there is some sort of security breach? I feel like my own PC is more secure. With some password management website I have no idea if the people who run it are honest or trustworthy. All it takes is one disgruntled employee to steal the passwords and all of their supposed 'security' measures go out the window.

Various sites each have their own password conventions, so it isn't practical to try to memorize all of them and using the same password on multiple sites is not a good idea.

The are only a few passwords that I generate myself nowadays. Generally I let a password application make, store, and organize them.

I keep my Apple products password protected using my own password that begins with a birthday but not my own. My elder sister knows it as does DGD in case anything happens.

I create my passwords using a sort of system/pattern I built…simple for things I really don’t care about being super secure and then a complex formula for more import sites - mainly financial.

So. Many. Passwords... and you have to change many of them regularly. I have a word document on my laptop desktop that both DH and DD know about. I keep it updated and send it to my work email (which has huge internet security) about once a year, just in case something happens to the laptop. I have to ask, though: What is the point? Passwords have gotten so complicated and need to be changed so many times that everyone has them written down somewhere, or emailed to themselves, or something. NOT that I'd have my accounts NOT be password-protected, but really... it's getting silly. Being as AI can write an entire lab report, including analyzing data and such, I have no doubt that it's only a matter of time before it'll be able to decipher passwords, too. It's getting crazy.

No specific system other than the auto-fill feature on my operating systems both at home and work. I rely heavily on the little “remember me” check box on a lot of programs/websites. :o This is probably a terrible idea and I have a feeling it may come back to haunt me. Sorting out something more reliable just hasn’t gotten to the top of my endless list of non-urgent things needing attention yet.

Spin-off question: Does anybody here ever actually log off of the DIS?

I use a password manager. However, two bad things. I wind up using the same password, or similar, on many sites, and I don't change them. If I used the abilities of the msnsger and let it both create and change, it would be much better.

I have a lovely Excel spreadsheet with the websites in alphabetical order. It contains the login name, the passwords and other important information. Anyone who can hack into my computer would be able to open the spreadsheet and see all the passwords. It isn't very safe, but I am also very careful about security. I have a login you have to use in order to open the laptop.

I also have a few passwords in the notes section of my phone. There is the Disney website, the Southwest Airlines website and a couple other sites I might need when traveling.

I used to keep all my passwords in a tiny spiral notebook. DD gave me an actual hardcover password book for Christmas and I transferred everything to there.

Plus some are saved in the already installed app on my phone, the ones where I clicked “remember me.”

I haven’t logged off the DIS in years. I’m not even sure of my password off the top of my head and I don’t know if it’s written in my book.

Spin-off question: Does anybody here ever actually log off of the DIS?

I don’t log out but have randomly been logged out. Oddly my password for the Dis is different from most of the other passwords I use. Yes I use the same or similar password for most things. How the heck else am I supposed to remember it? Some are different and random. Every so often my daughter will text me and tell me Hulu logged it out and could I send her the password again. Then have to look it up.

My passwords are stored in the password saver on my laptop and or phone
