I’ve been meaning to do this poll since Thanksgiving and keep forgetting.
Why since Thanksgiving? Because on Thanksgiving I used a potato peeler for the first time in forever and I hated every minute of it - LOL! I found 4 potato peelers in a drawer the night before Thanksgiving and I said to myself, “Sandy, you should use one of these this year.” The next day, I tried one and it wasn’t good - I threw it away. Tried the next one - same thing and threw it away. The next two were just ok. My DH prefers potato peelers, even though he never peels potatoes 🙄. told him to pick one to keep, so he did. Using a potato peeler was a one and done for me. I’m going back to my favorite paring knife next time 🙂👍🏻
I’m wondering with all of you today……

What is your potato peeling preference?
Potato Peeler, Paring Knife or Both?
(multiple choice)

For Me……My answer is above ⬆️ Paring Knife 100%. A paring knife is also what I use when taking the peel off an apple - the goal for that is one long strip, which I’m pretty good at doing 🙂👍🏻

Paring knife , my mom used that and that’s what I do and find it easier.

I do have one but use it to peel my carrots.

Potato peeler it’s really a vegetable peeler because it’s for peeling vegetables never was very good with a paring knife I can do it but I much prefer my vegetable peeler I can skin a vegetable lickety-split with one of those I don’t have a cheap one I have a really nice one and works awesome In my household I was the only one that used it everybody else used a paring knife

I used to do knife all the time.
Found a peeler I like (my old one wasn't very good).
Now it is almost always peeler.
My mother used a knife.

The ones I have now are Oxo. I have a three pack with a julieene peeler, swivel peeler for firm fruits and veggies and a serrated peeler for soft fruits and veggies

If I am going to peel the potatoes I much prefer a peeler, especially the newer ceramic ones.
I try to use the skin if at all possible though.

I use the peeler more for carrots than potatoes, but same difference.

There is too much waste with a knife IMO, regardless of how good your knife skills are..

I think it’s definitely one of those things where it depends on the quality of either item. If you have a good quality peeler, it can be very quick to use. If you have a mediocre peeler, you will struggle. The same with the paring knives. A good sharp one makes quick work of peeling a potato, but a cheap dull one is a pain.

My mom loved using a peeler. I am a lefty, so the peeler didn’t work quite as well for me, so I got used to using a paring knife.

Once I learned how to use a paring knife as a peeler became a knife adherent. It was more about retaining the skill than anything else. Now I’m back to using a peeler badly.
The worm turns.

Vegetable peeler, but they are not all created equal. I think I have three but I will wash “the good one” before I use either of the others. I don’t even know why I keep the other two!
If you are anything like me because you paid for them😆
When it took several purchases to find a blessed veggie peeler that worked properly and I had to pay over 20 bucks for it…decided that we as a society were quite possibly doomed.

Have always used a potato/vegetable peeler since it seems much faster and a safer way to do that. Using any sort of knife seems like you would end up wasting a lot of the potato and just generally take much longer to do especially if peeling a large number of them.

Peeler all the way. I spent the money on an Oxo good grips peeler and am amazed at how much easier it is to use than the old fashioned on my nana handed down to me. I also prefer a peeler with a long blade rather than a wide blade (if that makes any sense).

Neither, so I voted other.
I boil potatoes whole and the skin falls right off without needing a vegetable peeler or knife.

U shaped peeler FTW, IMHO.

My MIL told a story of buying a peeler in the 50s and pulling it out to peel some potatoes and her mother laughing at her. "What do you want with one of those new gadgety things?" DW's grandmother (born in 1902) said to my MIL.

Exactly this! I learned to peel potatoes using a paring knife. The other tool was the carrot scraper.

However, we do have a nice OXO vegetable peeler that I've used occasionally. DH usually does the peeling and he prefers the peeler.

Haven't peeled potatoes in a long time. But when I did, peeler. Marie uses a peeler. My folks used a knife.

I do recall Marie peeling grapes with knife for grandson Jeremy when he was a toddler. Oh, what we do for grandchildren! We still laugh about that and remind almost 17 year old Jeremy several times a year about the peeled grapes,

I don’t peel potatoes, just leave the skin on and cook. If I were to peel them, I would use a paring knife.
