Happy Monday friends…..I hope you all had a nice weekend.

This past weekend I was complimented on my hand writing, which is something I’ve always been complimented on - I have my mom’s handwriting, which is beautiful also. My mom only writes in cursive - I don’t think she ever prints. I developed my own unique handwriting which is a combo of printing and cursive together. I don’t know how I started this, or why, but it gets complimented all the time. This got me thinking…..I wonder how you all write . Let’s learn a little about printing and cursive before we proceed….




Now that we read that, let’s find out how we all write today….


When writing, do you print or use cursive?

For Me……I’m over 50 and as I mentioned above, my handwriting is both printing and cursive together. I don’t know how I started it or why - it just happened. I voted that I print and use cursive together.

Gal over 50 - I do a combo lately it’s been more print but I write checks I have to hand write checks every week and I do cursive for those if I’m making notes for people I have a tendency to print those because these are younger people and I’m not so sure if they can read in cursive so I will print those but if I’m doing something for me I will do it in cursive I do find it rather sad that people aren’t being taught cursive anymore because how are they going to read old letters and documents just family things because chances are really good that they are wrote in cursive I find that really sad even if you’re looking at old photos it’s wrote on the back in cursive there’s a lot of young people that can’t cursive ymmv

My Mother, also had beautiful cursive handwriting, Slo. I mostly print now but if you were to go back and look in my past journals that I used to keep it's mostly cursive.

Guy over 50 - have not used cursive since I left grade school and they stopped requiring it.

I use a combo usually. It just comes out that way.
I can do each separately, if needed.

I use both. Many schools no longer teach cursive, which I think is crazy. My grandson-in-law is 23 years old, cannot write in cursive, not even his signature. I was a volunteer in Kindergarten for several years and taught many children how to print. I am amazed that folks don't even know how to properly print all of the letters in the alphabet.

If I have to write something, I print, but it is much more likely I type.

At work I transitioned from taking written notes to typing when Microsoft OneNote came out. Work was the last place I regularly wrote stuff and now it has been 20 years.

If I need to remember something now it goes into the reminder app or a note on my phone. My calendar is all on my phone/computer.

I probably only take pen to paper once or twice a month.

Early 50's woman here, I also do a combo when casually writing things like grocery lists and cards or letters...yes I still write and mail letters! I correspond with my husbands elderly aunt who loves exchanging letters and it reminds me of the years I spent corresponding with my grandmother.
Anyhow, I print when I fill out official forms and whatnot. I often have to fill out bid/bond/contract/tax forms for work.

And what’s even worse is young people cannot read cursive. It’s crazy that it’s practically becoming a foreign language. In my workplace (lots of young colleges) and for my young adult son, I always print now, if I need to hand write at all.

I can write either, though I have never had great handwriting. I don't actually write too much anymore, but it would depend on what I was writing. I do tend to favor cursive for long-form writing though.

I very rarely write anything down nowadays, even my note taking at work is all on the computer.

When I do write, if it's for myself then I'll write cursive. But if it's likely that someone else will need to read it I'll print as my handwriting isn't the easiest to make out!

I use both print and cursive. Thinking of it, I believe I use cursive more. If I sign any type of card, I do cursive and when I make grocery lists, I do cursive. My handwriting isn't beautiful, never was but, it is legible, to me!

In early 50’s and use hybrid print-cursive if I have to write a note in something. My under 30 co-worker can’t read/write
cursive. More than once she’s had to ask me what something said.

I'm early 50's and mostly I print now but will also use cursive. Either way, it is hard to read due to nerve damage.

We gave a birthday card to one of our granddaughters a couple years ago, and I wrote a message to her in cursive. She had to have our other granddaughter read it to her as she couldn’t. I find that so very sad.

I write 95% of the time in cursive.
