Didn’t go to Nickerson this time. Decided on Shawme Crowell State Park in Sandwich. We vacation a lot in Sandwich and love the area so we decided to go there. We do have Nickerson back on the list for after Labor Day. Just gets sooo crowded in July and August…..but it is beautiful.

We are also about comfort and ease. If it’s not comfy and relatively easy, it is not fun. But I grew up tent camping (two weeks every summer) so have figured out what works for us over the years and what are necessities and what are just more extras we really don’t need.

It was fun. Trying to decide where to go next.
Took a look-see at google and I’ve never been but know how it was missed - off the main road to the MV ferry. Bet it would be less crowded than Nickerson which would be a blessing in these times.

Nope, I am a glamper girl. I need a decent bed and A/C. I could manage fine in a camper van, I don’t need a ton of space, but I need my comforts.

Well we just planned our next getaway! We are camping in Maine for a week starting next Saturday. On a whim we called our favorite campground ever (where I grew up camping every year) and they had openings. Hermit Island here we come!

Nope. My idea of camping is roughing it in a motel instead of a hotel and I rarely agree to that. I prefer to be pampered on vacations not sleeping on a hard ground, fighting off bugs, and communal showers. Yuck!
Ha Ha! Conversely, my idea of camping is there are no communal showers because camping in a campground isn't camping, LOL. Camping is going into the woods and setting up a tent or other shelter (hammock, tarp, bushcraft lean-to made out of branches), collecting firewood, building a fire to cook on and provide warmth because starting in around October is when camp season begins.

I don't sleep on the hard ground. I sleep on a sleeping pad and I haven't slept in a bed more comfortable than my sleeping pad on the ground.

I grew up the daughter of a Forest Ranger, so we did lots of camping and hiking all over the US. I love it! We started in tents and then later moved to a small travel trailer with an extra sleeping cabana/tent because it was easier for my mom.

DH and I tent camped a lot when we were first married but stopped after we had kids. I did sleep twice in a permanent platform tent at a Girl Scout camp with my daughter when she was young. We also slept in 2 different permanent luxury tents while we were in South Africa on Safari in 2019. At one of the camps we cooked our meals over the open fire (braai). The other camp provided meals.

Now that we are empty nesters, we want to start camping again but at 53 and 55 with 2 hip replacements and 2 knee replacements between us, we will not be sleeping on the ground ever again. We are looking at buying an 10 foot Aliner pop up trailer. It is totally self contained with propane stove, sink, 3 way refrigerator, heater, AC and cassette toilet. We will be able to camp with hookups at campgrounds or use solar power and camp completely off the grid!!! I can’t wait!!!

NO CAMPING HERE, just DW's motorhome and I'm her chauffeur, chef, housekeeper, dishwasher, laundry attendant (MY washer/dryer combo) and whatever else she needs.

We are also your age and have just gotten back into it. (see my earlier responses)

Even though we are in a tent, we both have super comfy cots with an extra two inch thick foam pad on top. They are sooo comfortable and keeps us off the ground. They are from Coleman and the foam pads are from Home Depot.
