Rodeos are exciting to attend and watch, but they aren’t everywhere for people to experience them. I don’t think we have any rodeos here in NW Indiana, but we may have some traveling rodeos that come in and out of the area. My DH and I watch a TV show called Heartland, that talks about the rodeo a lot, and now I want to go see a rodeo. So give us a yee-haw today and let us know……

Have you ever been to rodeo?
If yes….what are your favorite events?
(m.c.)

*If you watch on TV, or livestream, please vote for your favorite event(s)

For Me…..I’ve never been, and I’d really like to experience at least one rodeo - they look very exciting! After watching Heartland for the last several years, I really respect those that compete in a rodeo. I don’t think they are considered athletes, but I’m considering them athletes. You have to be strong and athletic to do what they do - they’re incredible.

Yes, but not in many years. My father was from Wyoming, so when we went to visit family we almost always went to a rodeo. I even rode in the parade once for the start of it

We also went to a couple when my kids were little at the county fair.

Went once with DS when he was young. It was a traveling show in an indoor arena. We saw bull riding and roping, as well as some other events and rodeo clowns. It was fun. I would definitely consider the riders athletes.

No, never. Not many rodeos in South Philly.

I have gone down the rabbit hole of watching videos of rodeo clowns distracting animals putting the cowboys in danger. Those guys are fearless.

Living in Houston, I've had one of the largest rodeos in the world within reach for nearly 3 decades. The HLSR is a spectacle and it's part of why I picked "other" in addition to a few favorite events. Mind you, we have seen more traditional rodeos driving around the country. It's impossible to drive through Wyoming and not see a few little town rodeo arenas. We were even up in Cheyenne several years ago during Frontier Days and checked out the night rodeo in Cody for a bit.

As for traditional events, I like barrel racing and bull riding, but there's one done here that's a fan favorite...mutton bustin'. It's a kid event and it's really entertaining. https://www.rodeohouston.com/exhibitors-contestants/mutton-bustin/

HSLR and many of our area rodeos/livestock shows also give kids in FFA a way to raise money towards their education. We've purchased cheaper steers at these auctions after the prime animals have been won in bidding. We also have several friends whose kids have raised goats and pigs for these events. It's the quieter side of many of these rodeos, but it's an important one for the community.

One last favorite with HSLR...while I'm not much for the carnival part of it, in our younger days, we would go for the concerts. It's not just country. Some of the more interesting acts we've seen that played the rodeo...Steve Miller Band, Def Leppard, Barry Manilow, and Tony Bennett. I still regret not going to see Bob Dylan play HLSR.

Oh...my FIL also used to be on several committees. I never went for this stuff, but the BBQ and chili cookoff are also big. I used to love driving by on my commute home and smelling the smoking meat!

I've been to Cheyenne Frontier Days a couple of times when I was a kid and it wasn't my scene. There's an annual one not far from me that I avoid at all costs.

I grew up in cowboy country and now live in a city that’s famous for annually hosting the big guest rodeo in the world. The “other” event that’s fairly unique to Canada and the headline competition of every major rodeo here is chuck wagon racing. It’s nicknamed “half a mile of hell” and I LOVE it.

Never a rodeo but did go to a horse show once. You know , jumping over fences type stuff. That was about 35 years ago.

I have seen a small county fair style one but have never been to a real one. I don't really like it too much and I don't think the animals do either.

Went to a regional one in the midwest once. I didn't like it. I don't like using the animals in that way to entertain. It feels like abuse to me. I felt sick to my stomach and wanted to leave but with extended family so I just sat there, sad.

I'll never go to one again.

We live just outside of Athens, Ga. home of the University of Georgia (go Dawgs, it's a legal requirement if you live here). They have a rodeo every year. We used to go all the time when my son was little but haven't been in years. I keep saying I want to go back every year, maybe this year. I don't have a favorite event, I just like to go and watch everything.

I've been to a rodeo in Colorado and a small rodeo in Jackson, WY. I've also been to a rodeo museum, but that's a different poll question. :)

Rodeos are in a whole different world than our Midwest suburban existence. But they are a lot of fun. :)

I was working food service at one years ago. I used to watch bull riding on tv with my dad a lot when I was younger

I think I went to one as a young kid, indoors, at the Amphitheater. If so, once. And if I did, probably liked the bucking broncos the best.

Calgary Stampede twice. Red Bluff Roundup once. Kind of got out of rodeos after the Red Bluff roundup because one of the bull riders was killed.
