Never seen this locally, I think its more of a Central Europe tradition - so Poland and Czech for example.
Friends in Chicago also did this - they were of Polish decent I think.

Also on Easter Monday:
"On Easter Monday, boys and men visit houses and sprinkle water on women and girls. As strange as it may sound, they carry a flexible rod made out of wicker which is decorated with ribbons. Don't be horrified to hear that this special rod is used for spanking women's bottoms."

Keller’s the makers of that Bunny shaped butter, used to make the lamb butter but I think they discontinued it in favor of the bunny.

I have to buy my lamb butter, the brand pictured above, from a Polish deli.

The lamb shaped butter has been an Easter tradition my entire life. There were probably fewer than five times that I neglected to buy it or couldn’t find it.

Besides dyed hard boiled eggs, the big Easter tradition around here has been Hot Cross Buns. Spiced buns with a cross on them, the cross often made of lemon curd. They usually have raisins and candied fruit (like you find in fruit cake in them. They are eaten traditionally at the end of Lent. The cross on top, and spices all carry religious symbolism related to Easter.
All the chain grocery stores and bakeries here carry Hot Cross buns this time of year.

:lovestruc It wouldn't be an Easter feast without them! I got mine fresh from the bakery the morning of our dinner but WOW are they pricey this year! $10 for a half-dozen and I needed 12. :faint: WalMart had a commercial, pre-packaged brand for $6 per half dozen but I passed because who knows when they were actually baked and they probably would have tasted like processed garbage. If yeast dough wasn't so finicky at this altitude I'd be making my own, like my DMother always did.

Never had either, and don’t think I’ve ever seen them in a store or bakery. My family has often had leg of lamb as the traditional main course for Easter dinner, but no butter or cake. Have had a turkey-shaped butter for Thanksgiving. And I’ve also had a homemade Easter bunny cake that looks something like this.

My Mom wished that I made this cake, but it has been decades since I made one like it. We are watching our carbs and stuff this year.
