Going severely Off Topic :offtopic:

Sandy, each time I see the title of your poll today, @slo, I think of the great song, I Drove All Night, rather than, I slept all night.

Before Celine and Cyndi, there was Roy

I have not slept through the night since having kids 9 years ago. Add a little on to that for pregnancy.

I have no issues falling asleep but I usually have to use the restroom 2 times a night. Doesn't matter how much or little I drink. Can't resolve it.

I am also a very light sleeper so if anyone makes a whimper or snores, I'm awake. I use ear plugs a lot.

Another non sleeper here.

Anyone have a good solution?

Sleep hygiene doesn't work. Tried a benadryl last night and a norco the night before (recovering from surgery, so it's legit that I can take it) .

Nope. Nothing.

Can fall asleep exhausted at 9:30 or 10, awake from 1:30 to 3 something, then lucky to get a couple more hours.

I believe quality of sleep is uber important. If you are not satisfied with your sleep, you are likely not satisfied in other areas of life also.

I did last night. But during the last few years it is not unusual for me to wake up earlier than I wanted to. Usually I can eventually fall back asleep. I am not sure what is causing me to stir early like that.

I don't think I've slept through the night since sometime early in pregnancy with my first. He's 29 now.......... :faint:

I’m surprised at all the people who have trouble sleeping, When I go to bed, I’m usually out like a light within about 15 minutes. I usually don’t wake up until the alarm goes off at 6:45 or about 10 minutes before. On weekends, we often go to bed later, and I could easily sleep in until 10 am.

I *usually* sleep through the night and not have to get up. Last night, and the past few nights have been glorious when it comes to sleeping through the night. Last month I got sick and I really had a lot of issues sleeping because as soon as my head hit the pillow I would start coughing. I could take NyQuil and I would sleep a while, but eventually wake up coughing. This week has been a glorious change of direction with that and I have been sleeping through the night again.

I'm like you. I get to sleep fine, but usually have a couple hours minimum in the middle of the night when I'm awake. It's concerning for future cognitive health. I've tried melatonin and edibles with THC/CBN and CBN/CBD, but I still wake up. Unfortunately, I also have to pee at least twice a night, so there's not much hope of not waking at all--I just wish that when I wake up at 2, I could get right back to sleep.

:scratchin I'm even more surprised that the majority reason mentioned is needing to use the toilet. This practically never happens to me (late middle-aged and post-menopausal), even though I consume a lot of beverages throughout the evening. I sleep very solidly 6 hours a night, although unlike you, I can't really sleep in. My clock is permanently set to that 6 hour mark but I make up for the sleep deficit by having epic naps on the weekend (2 - 3 hours as opportunity allows) and even that doesn't throw off my ability to sleep through the night. I may "sleep in" until 8:00 tomorrow morning though - it's currently 12:48 here and I'm still up because I crashed for a couple of hours after supper (very rare).

Well I’m almost 9 months pregnant with my 3rd if that tells you anything 😂 what is sleep? My husband on the other hand is out within a couple of minutes of his head hitting the pillow and he sleeps through the night no problem (unless we have a newborn, then he gets up and helps me in the middle of the night).

Apparently, a bifurcated sleep pattern was considered normal a long time ago:

I think a lot of this depends on so many factors!
Do you have little kids? Do you have a job that is labor-intensive (you are very active the entire day)? Do you have sleep apnea or a bladder issue, medical issue?

In my 20s and before, I never had a sleeping issue - I also had very little in the way of keeping me awake or preventing me from sleeping. Fast forward a few years to marriage and kids, all bets are off. There is snoring, nightmares, people getting sick, just little ones wanting to be with you, etc. And my schedule is made for me. My kids go to bed at a certain time and wake up very early with or without school.

Maybe that's what's been wrong with me! I used to sleep well after being on my feet all day. And even after I started working a desk job remotely, I was traveling a lot and always on the go. Since the pandemic, I haven't been out and about nearly as much. Maybe I should work on trying to tire myself out each day with a good hard workout.

Thanks!

It works for kids so I think it work for us!

I’ve never had any issues sleeping, it’s the waking up part that’s always been rough for me.

I’m also surprised by how many people on this thread say they have sleep problems. I’ve got two little kids in the bed with me tonight and I’m pregnant, but I have little doubt that when I go to sleep in the next few minutes, it’ll be a solid eight hours before I open my eyes again. I can’t function without plenty of sleep — I think my body just refuses to let it be an option. Lol.

Tell me your secrets! My kids do not sleep with me but multiple times a week they wake me up in middle of the night (dream, need a blanket or use bathroom).

When I was pregnant the 2nd time I slept in a recliner for 6 weeks before birth. I could not sleep in a bed. That's not an issue now, but I think you are lucky!!!
