Slinky Dog Rope Drop is a Living Hell

I don’t expect calm and relaxed. Safe I do expect.

This is it exactly, we tapped in the first 10 people of the day at HS on Tues. SDD was down which made things even worse. DS 14 got separated from us. Some older guy was trying to push me away from DD12. I explained I needed to stay with my daughter and he said I'm trying to keep up with my wife. I finally started walking with my elbows up and he told me to stop pushing. I sugfsugge he stop walking into my elbows. Passive agressive I know, but I was at my limit

I’ve yet to hear of an injury of any kind. Could it happen? Sure. Just like it does many times a day at any given event where there is a mass of people trying to do one thing. We had a pretty significant injury waiting for fireworks at the MK that impacted the rest of our trip. Our solution was to not watch fireworks in that crowd again.

So is all this madness just for SDD, or TSL in general? I have FP for SDD so was planning to head for TSMM followed by AS2. But all these stories are making me rethink that plan.

This plan is totally fine. Just let the cutters and elbow throwers go ahead of you. The other two rides will still be basically walk on when you get there. We did this without issue. It’s only an issue if you are trying to keep near the front of the Slinky line.

Yup that’s why Emm is the way to go. No way I’m putting 3 small children through that

We’re doing this as well. From everything I read, it’s pretty amazing what you can get done in an hour or so. I’m going for it before Disney starts over selling it!

I think they’re doing this like the hea dessert party. If it sells out they add another one a 7am. The upside is you can get in earlier I suppose. But of course that adds double the people to limited people event

Sorry you experienced this.

I do think Disney blew it in the design for getting into Toy story land. Too many turns and bottlenecks. I noticed it back in October when we first saw the new entrance. At the time I was more focused on how little shade there was because we went mid day on a hot day and it was miserable. We looked around and left as soon as we could. We tried again during our recent trip in February and booked a mid day slinky FP mid day when I could find a FP. We rode it and left. We found the area much nicer on the days we came back at night after resting in our room. The lights look very cool at night and crowds are lower. My husband did standby for Slinky at night several times while I rode TSM 3 or 4 times. The waits for Slinky varied from 30 minutes to an hour during the last hour of the evening (7 pm to 8 pm).
I believe they should extend the hours as more people could get FP and ride during a longer Park day, but I also believe that Disney will get by if they can and as long as they can with doing the minimum in park hours.

The time is just for booking purposes and from what I understand, has been this way for a while at least. Everyone enters at the same time. Current reports are the crowd levels are very low. For the time being, Disney is keeping this at low ticket sales. Even sold out events are not crowded.

$500 and and Slinky Dog may be down. If it is, what do they do, give you a FP? Come back later?

I was there a day this happened. Some people got 1 anytime FP and nothing more. If you came back and asked after hearing via word of mouth, nothing was stated out loud, you could then get three anytime FPs. And yes they worked for SDD. A few people asked for refunds and had varying degrees of the ticket amount returned. For full disclosure SDD did finally open at 8:30 and they held rope drop back a few minutes to accommodate. Really the biggest negative affect were 15 minute waits for TSM and 5 minute waits for AS2. And CRAZY waits to meet woody and jessie.

I’ve been following reports closely and it rarely happens. From what I’ve read, they compensate in the form of FP’s with no question. I haven’t read any report that anyone was denied at least that. It’s a risk you run with any ticket you buy. Personally, If I wasn’t able to ride it at all, I’d expect a FP for later AND a partial refund. They wouldn’t have to do it, they don’t guarantee specific rides, but with so few open and SDD the main reason for doing it,this is a little different.

For me, it’s just me and my grandson that I’m paying for so it’s not a huge outlay of cash. I understand the hesitation when your talking $500 or more.

When my husband road slinky after waiting 30 minutes during the last hour before park closure in early February it was raining. It wasn’t a walk on but a 30 minute wait isn’t too bad. Just another suggestion.

We were lucky enough to bag a fastpass so avoided all the crushing rope drop crowds. I'd rather log on at 60 days and fight to bag a fastpass in the comfort of my own home then fight with other people early in the morning in the discomfort of a rope drop :scared: :rotfl2:

Hopefully it doesn’t happen often.
If Disney wants to make it where you have to pay to play then so be it. My kids rode sdmt last year 5 times and because of the hard part being out of the way we were able to make a touring plan that meant we never waited longer than 15min for a ride the entire day. I was told on this site last year to scrap emm because of the possibility that a ride might break down too. I was willing to spend $8000 to come there, I’m absolutely sure I’ll spend another $500 to make it awesome.
