I am a relative novice, but am looking for an inexpensive sling and a portable lightweight (small and light) tripod to take with me for our Late November trip to WDW. Any suggestions?

I am looking for the tripod for fireworks shots..

Any other hints or must haves, please do not hesitate to send me your tips.
Thanks.

I am just at Disney with a Rebel cause my 60D didn't get back from repair in time. I am carrying a Manfrotto travel tripod with me every day. It's lightweight and small enough to fit into my small backpack. It has been amazing shooting with it so far. I have to look up the model if you want if you want to know cause it's a limited edition one (there is a regular version to this one though). One thing though, this travel tripod is only 5'3 extended so for fireworks you will new a clear shot because you can't shoot over people heads. I have not found that to be a problem though so far.

This sling is low cost and uses the cameras lugs instead of the tripod mount: http://optechusa.com/straps/utility-strap-sling.html
I too have this sling...I've used it on a couple vacations already, including WDW. It's very comfortable on the shoulder and I feel safer knowing that this strap uses the stock camera strap's eyelits instead of the tripod screw mount as other straps use.The detachable connectors are a nice feature. It has no problem supporting the weight of my T1i with my Tamron 18-270mm attached, which is currently my biggest lens. Can't beat it for the price!

Am I able to wear this sling while also wearing a backpack?

I usually wear a drawstring backpack when in the parks and have worn it with this camera sling with no problems.
Just make sure to put the sling on before the backpack and you should be fine. :thumbsup2
The neoprene/lycra shoulder padding is very comfortable and absorbs the weight of the camera very well...I can go all day with it on.

Yes, I don't see why not.
Runninlow3 described it well! :goodvibes
