Anyone had success with SW? Am thinking it may be a better plan for me than Weightwatchers, although I think my lack of willpower is the problem to be honest

I personally haven't done it but I have a lot of friends who have used the plan and all without exception have done extremely well, their only downfall was their attitude towards 'normal' eating and as soon as they'd reached their required weight they started piling the pounds back on. If you're aware of this and start making lifestyle changes as well as following the plan then you'll be more successful.
Good luck and keep posting to try and take your mind off food!

My friend uses Slimming World and has lost 3 stones so far. I have seen their magazine and they have a really interesting diet, you can even have fish and chips! Good luck :thumbsup2

My friend used Slimming World last year before she got married and she lost 4 stone. The plan itself seemed very easy to follow and she certainly had results.

I would encourage anyone who wants to loose weight to join a Slimming World class. I joined way back in February 2004 - needed to loose 2 stones, which took me 7 months :) . I find the eating plans really easy to follow and enjoyable. I still attend my class, even though I am a target member, which helps me to maintain my weight - I would have probably put the weight back on if I had stopped going.

I am curretly following the Slimming World plan (although at home not at a class). I find it really suits me as I am quite fussy about what I eat and often don't like some of the foods on 'set diets'. Weight watchers didn't work for me as I used to use all my points on chocolate and crisps :rolleyes1

As for whether it works, well I have lost 24 1/2 lbs in 8 weeks so it obviously does. I can still have a treat each day (usually some crisps or a choccy bar) and I don't ever feel hungry. I have even had a couple of days where I have treated myself to chips or a chinese :)

No I would not recommend it!!

I lost 6 stone on it then became a consultant for them. As soon as you leave the plan and eat 'normally' you pile the pounds on quicker than you took them off.

Its a basic caloried controlled diet....so you dont need to mix and match as they say (you get to know all this once you are a consultant!)

Nothing is better that just reducing the calories and fat in your diet!! (and then you dont need to pay the weekly fees!!)...slow and steady wins the race!!

1 or 2 pounds a week is what you shouls aim for..if you loose for than 3 than you can also gain that and more a week when you come off the Slimming World plan.

I cant/dont have an opnion on weight watchers etc s they may be different...but as slimming world goes its a bit of a con and I am back where I started!!...(less a few hundred pounds in money and tears when I have sat in a restaurant trying to find something to eat and not feel guilty!!)

I dont think no-one should live permantly on a diet (you only live once!!) and its so demoralising and the feel of guilt/embarresment when you put the weight back on.

Jane, whilst I appreciate and understand your feelings on the subject, any diet should be about changing your eating habits for the better on a permanent basis. For me (who has been a yo-yo dieter for years), I have finally come to realise that there is no going back to eating 'normally'. My normal eating habits are what makes me gain weight. I know that, in order to continue to lose and then maintain wieght, I need to change my eating habits, which is what I've done. With any diet, if you restrict your food intake (which is basically what any version of a diet does), as soon as you start increasing the amount/calorie count/fat content of your diet again you are bound to put weight on.

A diet, for me, is not an interim solution. I have slowly come to the realisation that if I eat a diet of chips, cakes, crisps, biscuits, chocolate etc. then I am going to gain weight. The basic maths is to ensure your calorie intake doesn't exceed the number of calories you burn in a day. I have been losing weight (on average) at approx 3lbs per week. I know that if I eat more in a particular week, I won't lose as much. If I eat less, I will lose a bit more. Hopefully, by the time I reach my target weight, I will have learned what I need to eat in order to maintain that weight.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't necessarily mean that Slimming World is not a good diet - at the end of the day, it works (admittedly, not for everybody) and that's what counts. But, the important thing to remember, which is probably where a lot of slimming clubs fail, is that you need to permanently change your eating habits. My DH is forever asking when we can go back to eating 'normally' and I have to keep reminding him that this is it! There is no going back (not for me anyway). Having been fat for longer than I remember, when I eventually get to be thin, there is not a hope in hell of me going back to being the lardy blob I was :)

You are quite right - it doesn't matter whether you go to SW or WW or nowhere at all - reducing your calorie/fat intake and taking more exercise does the job - but it has to be permanent. If going to a club supports you then that's good. I am seeing a lady at work every two weeks - she can't afford a club but needs the support so reporting in to me is her way of sticking to her plan - she's alway skipped breakfast and lunch which we all know is a recipe for disaster as she then snacks on crisps and biscuits.

It should also be about improving your health and not just about losing weight.

Well done on your weight loss and the realisation that there's no going back - wish I could be as committed as I'd love to lose a stone! I am trying!

Slimming World is a great diet! I have done it several times and I love the diet, you can eat really well and not go hungry ( I was always hungry on WW) and the weight comes off pretty fast. Yes I have put the weight back on but thats because I have no self control and as soon as I have lost weight I celebrate by treating myself to a pizza, indian and so on!! I would recommend the diet to anyone, the meetings are very good as well and you get lots of support.

The key to losing weight is to change your eating habits. eat more fruit and veg and make sure you allow your self a favourite treat. Obviously this is all common sense and we all know it.
I also find that if you are not in the right frame of mind then no matter how hard you try you wont lose weight-or is this just me :confused3
I have tried slimming world, but i found it hard having red days and green days! so i have gone back to weight watchers which seems to work for me, i still have my bad weeks, but i know i will get there in the end and lose the weight!
Strommie, try slimming world it may work for you!

Wow, thanks everyone :thumbsup2 I think I may give it a go and see how I get on. Just need to get my willpower on track and I should be ok :rotfl2:

Jane, I really wasn't having a go at you or anything - it was purely to point out that Slimming World does work but you need to realise that it's not a permanent solution. No hard feelings :)

Do you find it still easy to follow at home. I did it years ago and found it easy but went to meetings,(which I hated LOL).

Now afetr putting a lot of weight on due to eating and a car accident fancy doing it again.

I used to save my sins for a takeaway with my DH, can you still do that? Meetings are not really an option for me.

Thanks!

You can join on the internet and you get support that way if you cant go to the meetings, plus you can check syns and stuff on there as well. Its still ok to save syns for a takeaway!

I am wondering this as I want to do it online...don't want to go to meetings.

I do find it quite easy to do at home - the only problem is, obviously, because I'm not registered with Slimming World (just using the books from a couple of years ago), I do not get all the updated information. I don't do red and green, just stick to red all the time. I believe you can store up your sins (think they call it flexible sins) but I don't tend to do that - if I'm gonna have a takeaway, I just have one ;)

For me, belonging to a class and going once a week to get weighed and paying almost a fiver for the privilege is not for me. I much prefer to just hop on the scales at home on a Wednesday - at the end of the day, even if you're going to the classes you still need willpower of your own the other 6 days of the week.

I believe you can register with Slimming World to do it 'at home' but you still pay an exprbitant price for the privilege. I just make sure I stick to what I know works for me - it does mean my meals are fairly boring and repetitive but I buy the Slimming World magazine every other month and that gives me some new ideas.

Cool thnks for the info.

I have the books from last year, and get the magazines.

I tend to favour green days, I'm a take it or leave it when it comes to meat.

I will crack on! :woohoo:
