Slightly OT - I saw one of the most disgusting things ever in a Grocery Store

Lady I know bought a coffee maker at Walmart as a Christmas gift for her neighbors. She was horrified to find that when the neighbors opened the cafefully sealed box there was an old, dirty, used coffee maker inside.

I bought a humidifier from Target once and when I got it home it had been used and abused since it had several cigarette burns on the top of it. It was so gross. I was more ticked that the store was an hour from my house and I now had to go return it.

That said I once bought a pair of jeans from a store and found out the zipper was broken so I returned them showing them where the zipper ripped. They didn't have another pair in my size that day but a couple weeks later they had a pair in my size. I looked at them and they were the same pair with the busted zipper. I took it to the manager and told her the issue. That pair of pants were back on the rack the next time I went in again. I think they were waiting for someone to just keep them and not return them.

My mom bought a mower at Walmart we took it out of my truck/Yukon Xl and I noticed that there was some grass in the back where the mower had been. I lifted the mower up and the inside was all rusted and full of grass. THe blade was all dinged up! It was a used mower! That was irritating enough but when we went to return it the CS woman shook head and said it had been returned three times previous to that. She then told us that the first return was because the first buyer had used the mower several times and that basically she felt that the first buyer busted it. It was then put out twice more after that and returned because it wouldn't run properly. We were the fourth return We asked if it was going to be put out for a fifth time...Incidently it wasn't.

Don't bring the tainted merchandise to the attention of store personnel. You might be accused of switching the price tag or the contents of the package.

I bought an import cd at a music store in the mall one time, the only copy the store had. After leaving, my friends were busy shopping in another store I had no interest in so I opened the cd to read the insert. Imagine my surprise when there was no cd in it. After looking closer, a part of the case was broken off, just enough for a cd to slip out. I immediately took it back to the store and explained the situation. The clerk was a teenaged girl who seemed confused and didn't know what to do so she got her manager. The manager gave me the inquisition, questioned my story, said it didn't sound believable that I would just open the cd outside the store, asked the clerk if the cd was intact when I bought it, to which she said it was, and basically flat out told me I was a thief. No money back, no store credit, no offer of an exchange (which wasn't possible anyway, but they didn't know that and didn't offer), only left being accused of trying to rip them off. Needless to say, I have not been back.

My friend used to work at a local chain department store with a very liberal return policy. One family used to buy a patio set and grill every spring and return it every fall for full credit! Needless to say, this chain of stores is now out of business!

mrodgers, don't know where you live, but here the Lowes would never take things back that are knowingly stolen. They would call the police - shame on them there encouraging such thievery :sad2: And OP, if you had time to take a picture, you surely had time to inform them of the disgusting item!!

Coming from someone who works in retail Fwiw it would of taken a lot less time to just take the candles up to the register with you to hand off to the
cashier while paying for your stuff than it did for you to take out your phone put it on the camera setting, pose the candles, save the pic, and check the price.
Hope if someone does end up accidentally buying this it's not minutes before the party.

Plus don't forget the time invested in posting on the DIS. OP, that's certainly gross but I would have at least dropped them off at CS or a register on my way out.

I used to work retail (Wanamakers, way back) and women would return old bras and underwear if they didn't think they wore well. I'm talking the elastic was stretched and the fabric faded b/c they were so old. Now we didn't turn around and sell those items but they did get their money back. This was before stores wisened up and started giving store credit for such returns. No wonder Wanamakers went out of business.

At this moment I am baking my DDs birthday cake (waiting for it to come out of the oven). I need to run out and get some candles. You have given me a good idea. :cool1:

Just kidding, of course.

Maggie

OP Here. For posters who commented on me not pointing them out to the employees because as I said I was in a rush.

I didn't take the pic DS took it with his phone while I was picking up cake ingredients.

I noted the price of the candles as they are the same type of candles we bought.

And it wasn't that I didn't have time to return them to the register. I did not THINK to return them to the register. I was more focused on getting thru my list and getting out the door so wasn't thinking about the next poor person who might not see that they were used.

Did anyone notice that Betty Crocker cake mixes are now 15 oz instead of 18 oz?I went to restock my baking pantry and noticed the size difference in the boxes. I guess it will make 1or 2 less cupcakes per batch.

I have been unable to get 24 cupcakes from a mix for a long while now. I guess now it's even LESS!

Thanks for the post....it reminded me that I have some make up to return/exchange this week. The store is 20-30 minutes out of my way and I purchased a sealed container of makeup a few weeks ago. When I went to use it I peeled off the seal and it had someones finger prints ran all through the solid make up :( I guess someone gently peeled back the seal to try it out and then sealed it back.....now I have to go out of my way to get more make up. Makes you want to open everything you buy before leaving the store.

Reminds me of a Target trip when I went looking for undies and a bra

#1 bra - Dried gunk in the cup
#2 bra - dried gunk in the cup

Told an employee and they said they see that and blood all the time.

Undies I almost placed in my cart- OMG IS THAT A BLOOD STAIN??????!!!!!!!

This was a year ago and I've never gone in that section again.:rotfl: nassssssty

I have to check my makeup from now on because I have had so many issues with buying something and it was either half gone or open and used.

I bought a sign in book for a 50th wedding party. It was boxed and everything. After I got it home and decorated it on the outside to personalize it. I leafed through it and found names and addresses of guests from someone else's party!

I'll bet the guests never dreamed their personal info would be returned to Wal-mart after the party for cash. Since I had already decorated the book I carefully removed the used pages but I went back to Wal-mart and showed them so they would remember to open these items and inspect them in the future. The Manager was embarrassed and insisted on giving me a full refund even though I told him I would keep the book.

Not as gross as the other examples, but pretty awful anyway.
