Slide Event, One Big Dissapointment!

I am extremely upset with this water event! After the fiasco and tornado of the Everest Ride event, one would think they would live and learn from that experience. Instead of improving conditions, they made matters worse!

I remember a number of us expressed unhappiness with the event and how it was handled. We all agreed that we wanted to have more time to organize, less time to judge and categories provided upfront. Most even wanted prize info to be known, that way we could decide whether it was worth it. Please dont patronize me with "I'm doing it for fun and to make friends" because you dont need an event to have fun or make friends. I am in it to win the prizes and have fun! If they said the prize was "fireworks magic" I wont lie, I would drop out because that prize isn't worth my time. Judging slots would help too!

VMK should have provided the categories upfront, so the little kids and adults can have a guideline to work with. Build a water slide is very vague and way too open ended. Last time they said make Everest and yet the categories were best use of tracks, color and theme. Who would have guessed these categories? Most of us expected "Most Like Everest at WDW" as one category. So now they provide broad info and avoid listing categories and we are stuck trying to work with that. And then boom, come the winners 'Best Use of Barrel Chairs', 'Best Use of Tiki Fountains' and 'Best Use of Water Rugs'

We also still have 28 hours of judging times, and the same team requirements. Why do we need to register the room names right now? And then there's the matter of the first 200 teams only. That gives us four days to organize a team, get a leader, a theme, room titles, ideas, etc. Who is going to chance waiting until 7/16 to register? We are all going to cram up on 7/10 trying to get in!

How long will they take to let us know? So you mean to tell me after I spend 4 days fighting and struggling to make ends meat, I may not make it? All that work to get an email that says "sorry you are registrant #201"

We get four days to do 95% of the legwork and 33 days to make the rooms. I don't need a month, maybe a week or two tops. Why does this have to drag out for a month? This was another complaint of many. I thought VMK cared but they don't seem to. This event is exactly like before except with three negative changes and I expected more from Disney and VMK!

:guilty:
I am just dissapointment and especially since VMK did not learn from the past team event and improve the conditions.

looks like yavn and vmk have a stalker

I TOO am dissapointed that the event is STRUCTURED nearly exactly the same as the everest event...

While its nice to know that they'll be judging on color... im pretty sure the idea of creativity and overall ride experience went without mention.

Staff is greatly outnumbered in vmk and I understand that poses as a huge problem when it comes to ride events. A nice suggestion would be to organize the teams, by the date they signed up and break up the teams. The sooner your team signed up, the sooner you will be judged. Staff could send out a vmk message to all team members/leaders - your judging day will be on (day), please have that room staffed at all times for everyone to enjoy and to be judged -
This way you would only be required to be staffing your room for that entire day, rather then all three. They have sent me enough PERSONALIZED messages and warnings for me to know this is an easy task for them to accomplish, it just requires time and effort.

I do the ride events cause I enjoy creating rooms. Does it involve time and credits? Yup sure does, but when I think about it, I probably spend more time creating the room itself then actually waiting all weekend for it to be judged. So no matter what I lose the "real people time"... hah

See you on the slides :wave2:

Don't make me delete this entire thread. If you can't express your thoughts in a way that's appropriate for the DIS or without calling each other names and being rude, then don't post.

I was on a losing team from the Everest competition. Was I upset with the judging? Yeah. Did I start a team for this slide competition? Yeah. LOL
I like having a way to showcase my ride rooms and this is one way to do it. I don't care what the judges are using as their criteria for judging rooms, my team is building an awesome ride, we're all having fun and, yes..we hope to win.
I'm okay with the times the rooms will be judged. The rooms should be open so everyone can enjoy them, however they do not have to be open to be judged. This is an important fact that seems to have been overlooked. The hosts can see your rooms whether you are in them or not. If your team's application was accepted, your ride will be judged.
I also think limiting the number of rides to 200 is fair. That's a lot of rooms for the hosts to have to look at and judge. How could they see, say 1000 rides in a weekend?
Bottom line: Get your application in early and make sure it is complete and correct.
Good luck to everyone who wishes to compete.

With 3 million characters registered 200 teams is a small amount. If you do the math each team can have 20 people so that MAXIMUM that can participate is 4,000 people. That might leave a lot of people left out. Even if we say that 2/3 of the people registered don't play that still leaves a MILLION players. So a very small percentage of the people get to do this competition.

I always say if they are going to do an event they need to do it right, either have more staff or do it over a few days but find a way to let anyone that wants to participate be able to.

Let's remember, this is a free game. Not everyone will participate, either, so your numbers are off. There are many people who want nothing to do with ride building.
I still feel that 200 teams is a manageable number for the hosts to handle on a weekend. If there were more teams allowed to participate, there would be another event like the Everest ride build. Some of those rides were not judged until well after judging was supposed to have ended. Long hours for the hosts, even longer for the ride teams. At least this time your room does not have to be open to be judged.
Look at it this way. There is a given number of teams for any competition, be it sports or games. Shouldn't VMK be the same?

Hey, you can have my spot. I don't have any interest in this contest, because it seems handicapped from the start. All of you folks who are planning on making rooms, I salute your determination and hope you win something great. Me, I'm just going to build a room where all the downhill slides run into the walls.

Let's just disagree, we usually do!

Also you have to remember back at the other ride competition there were not more than 200 teams registered. As my team was rejected because of a registration mistake I visted many rooms and when i searched up: "Base Camp" each day I saw the same teams and there was no where near 200 rooms open. Therefore I think that there is not going to be anybody left out unless they make a mistkae in the registration.

Guess my numbers were not all that off since we are starting to hear from the disappointed people.

I really hope our slide team gets accepted. It would be so sad to be denied over a mistake I've made. And we're pretty excited to present to the community our hard work in progress.. if you know us, you know we go all out!

where's that praying smiley..

Let's also remember staff do not work for free. They are paid to run a game correctly and fairly! The only people held accountable for a mess up is the players!!
