My DF has a 18 month old DS. He slept well at WDW at 12 months. Since then, they have tried to take some overnight trips. On these trips he goes to sleep ok but will wake up between 12 and 2 and be wide awake. Sometimes he will eventually go back to sleep with mom. At disney, he was in a crib. The one there was small and flimsey and did not seem comfortable (he rolled around a lot but did sleep ok). He does still sleep in a crib at home. She bought this portable toddler bed from One step ahead. That bed is what she is using in hotels now.

Sometimes they'll just get up and come home in the middle of the night. These are active travelling people that really need to resolve this issue.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi,

My kids have had some sleep problems over the years. Once they get in to a bad pattern, it can be difficult to break it, but that is what they need to try to do.

When my son wouldn't sleep, I used to lie down with him to get him back to sleep. Obviously, this is not an ideal solution, as they will expect you to do it all the time. Eventually, I took advice I read in a magazine. You should go to see your child when he can't sleep and let him know you are there, but talk in a v quiet voice (whispering I suppose). But, you shouldn't get out of the bed nor should you lie down with him. You need to do this for a long time but it should work eventually. You're reassuring the child that you're there and he is safe but at the same time, making it clear that you're not getting in the bed with him.

I'm sorry. I know how difficult it is and I do hope this works for them.
