Sleeping infants, grobags and air con!

I'm sure some will understand what I mean! We use grobags for my DS and have a choice of taking a 0.5 tog (or whatever the lightest tog rating is - my son is sleeping in it now so can't check!) or a 2.5 heavier tog with us next week. Considering it is so hot, logically you would think to take the lightest tog, but I was wondering about the air con and am now thinking it might get nippy and so should take the heavier tog.

Does any one have any suggestions or experience of this?

Also, what would you suggest we take on board for the night flight back?

Thanks

How old is your baby? I would take a summer gro bag if possible. The ligther the better. It does get chilly in the aircon - especially on the buses and in restaurants at night. Or take a blanket for him. I asked how old he is because you don't want to be carrying too much stuff around with you even if it is in a stroller at the parks, but some of that comes with the territory with a baby.

Thanks for the reply. He's actually more a toddler - 18 months. During the day it's absolutely fine as he'll be running around and will have jumper if necessary. He is still in a cot at night and in his grobag, so it was more then I was wondering for.

Well you're still quite right to consider something to cover him. :thumbsup2 He's still little and after running around in the warm sun all day, the sudden temp change, especially when his body temp drops anyway while he is sleeping, makes a light blanket (maybe he has a favourite?) or a grobag a good idea. Although most kids are probably fine with it, you dont want him to catch a chill. Don't forget a spare set of clothes (little shorts and a t shirt or something small) in your day bag - he is likely to want to get soaked with all the pop jet fountains. ;)

I think i'd take the lighter one. Even with aircon in the room it never seems that cool (not like it can be in some restaurants). I think it turns off overnight in some rooms if there is no movement.

If he has a special blanket or something take a spare!

When we went with DD under 2 she had a taggie blankes as a comforter (still has it now in bed). We lost one at seaworld then lost the other one at MK.

Cue me ringing around trying to find one and DH driving to a shop in downtown orlando to pick it up! Both turned up but we would have had a couple of sleepness nights if we hadn't found the spare to buy.

Yep, even with air-con we still put youngest in just a nappy and a 0.5 tog grobag and she still got all clammy in the night.

Having the sleeping bag though meant she knew it was bed time and we kept some of the routines by using it as she instantly calms down when zipped up!

She's in a bed now with covers so dreading the next trip! Thank God it's a single storey villa.

i would take the lightest tog with you, when we took our dd when she was young she slept in her summer sleeping bag and she was never cold.

We took a 1.0 tog for DD and she sleeps in that in just a bodysuit. She is a 'cold' sleeper and prefers the extra warmth. She also sleeps with a small fleece blanket as that is her comforter.

We have our aircon around 72 degrees so a warm summer night here.

Owen was 16 months last year when we went and he was fine in his 1.0 tog Gro Bag. He usually had just a vest on underneath but did like to snuggle up to his fleece blanket until he was asleep.

I'd agree with the others on using the lightweight gro-bag, especially if it's familiar from home and helps him to settle. It'll take up a bit less space in the case and then you can always add extra layers (vests/blankets) if you need to.

As for the night flight - will he have his own seat? If he's on your lap then I found it was easy enough to cover both me and DD over with the blanket we were given on the flight (although my shoulders were cold because I tried not to smother her!). In his own seat maybe a pair of cosy PJs and some socks and you could always tuck him up in a blanket after he falls asleep? We're putting both DDs in some super comfy trousers and hooded jumper if that helps.

Enjoy your trip :)

when our DS was 11months we took a lightweight grobag, and also his favourite "holey" blanket (crochet;)) he would pull that up over himself if he wanted it in the night, also if you are anything like me you are up checking on them in the night anyway so you will be able to see if he is warm or cold :)

I would agree with the other posts, I would take the lighter one.

I suppose if you find your DS is cold (which I honestly dont think will happen) then its a good excuse to go shopping :thumbsup2
