Like it says, what do you do with a 2 1/2 year old? I know the bunks and pull down beds have rails, but are there rails for the sleeper sofa? She is too big for a pack and play ( could do if had to) but not sure she is ready for a no rail bed especially with the rocking ship! We would rather not have her hanging from the ceiling it is just too high yet.

What have you done with your little ones?

Following, we'll be travelling with our 2 1/4 year old in January and were wondering the same thing... we reserved a Pack N Play but I highly doubt she'll use it. She still uses the crib at home but, of course, that could all change by then! We reserved the toddler rail as well (they can offer a separate one - see the link below) and we'll figure it out when we get there!

It's strange cause I never thought about this with my 2 year old on our first cruise. He slept in the bottom bunk with his 3 year old brother. They never fell out, the bed is so low I didn't think anything of it.

However, after the first night we asked that they didn't bring the bunk part of the bed down from the ceiling. My 2 year old thought he could fly! I was right there and he wasn't harmed.

You can get a bed rail from the stateroom attendant for the bottom bunk bed - when we took our 1st cruise it was just me and my DS (5 and 7 at the time) and my 5 year old slept with me in the queen - he is an overly active sleeper and after the first night when I woke suddenly to keep him from crashing out of the bed, I got a bed rail!

Our 2 year 5 month old slept on the pull out bed in our room with a bed rail on each side and did great. It was her first few nights ever not sleeping in a pack n play or crib at home.

I think "community baby bedding" is just gross...so we traveled with a "The Shrunks" inflatable bed rail for our DD the first 4 years of her life. It packs small and she never fell out of bed (and she is WILD in her sleep) I also like it because you can position it at the head board instead of middle bed because she would get sideways at the top of her bed at home...

I took my mom and my 2 1/2 yo DD on a cruise last Dec. For the first night, my DD slept on the pull down bed with the rail, and it was great. Of course then we discovered my mom snored so badly, we moved HER to the bed, and my DD slept in the Queen with me. I didn't even think about the Shrunks bed, but that would be a good alternative if you want to carry it with you. And you'd have to move some furniture around to fit it in. But the rail covers most of the pull down bed, and should be fine. Have a great trip!

Maybe I'm a bad parent but our dd 20m now will be 2.5 when sailing. she stays in the beds wherever we go never used rails or anything. she takes bigger falls at the park then she would if she rolled out of the bed. It's just not a concern too us maybe because she started climbing out of her crib at 16 months so rails would do nothing but cause a head first fall for ours

Well we are not great then either because I very much understand! I just don't know how she will do with the rocking ship and once she wakes up I am afraid she will end up with a foot in my face for the rest of the night!

I was like this too, until our DD fell out of a very tall bed (almost 4 feet high) bed in San Francisco and landed on her face. We decided not to use our Shrunks that night because we were too tired to blow it up. Two black eyes and a swollen nose with road rash, plus a giant bruise on her leg from hitting the night stand made us reconsider just letting her sleep in the bed. She was in a queen, alone and fell out because she is a wild sleeper. I think each parent knows their child. Our 5 year old no longer has a rail, but she has fallen out of bed at home twice the past few weeks. Its a serious problem in our house.

Also, the Shrunks we used is not the whole bed, its just the rail. (clarifying for a post above)
