Just returned from 1st trip home. Stayed at B.C.V. studio 563, great view of Spaceship Earth and the fireworks.

The only negative was the sleeper sofa, very uncomfortable. My DD & DS called it the "banana bed", and having slept on the sleeper sofa myself i would agree:(

My question: Is there a studio or 1-bedroom available with 2 beds instead of a bed and a sleeper sofa?

Old Key West is the only DVC resort that has 2 queen size beds in a studio. All one bedroom units have a King in the master bedroom and sleeper sofa in the living room.

I also here that the new sleeper sofas at OKW (the resort either is in the process of a rehab, or may have just finished) are much more comfortable. If the hold up well, and the feedback from guests/members continues to be positive I imagie they will cycle through to all DVC resort during their regular rehab schedules.

Does anyone know if the sofa sleepers at Saratoga Springs will be the new type?

Maybe in May when people start returning we can find out.

I told my niece that if we do end up with a room with a sleeper sofa I would let her have the bed.

My brother wants me to book OKW due to the two "real" beds in the studio.
I might want to try Saratoga Springs because I have stayed at OKW before and I might want to try something new.

I've heard so much good about the new OKW sleeper sofas, I'd be grateful if someone could peek underneath and pull a brand name and perhaps a model number for the mattress and mechanism.

When we purchased SSR...our guide raved about these new sleeper sofas. They will be at SSR and the other resorts will be upgraded. I believe he said they were going to start at BCV...but that doesn't seem to be the case. Makes sense to start at OKW, since the sofas there are older and have seen more use.

we just toured ssr at the sales office last week and had asked about the sleeper sofa and the answer was , the ssr sleeper sofa are special made for that resort, all our furniture is custom made.
when i complained to the guide about the sleeper sofa at bcv, his responce was, that is why you and every dvc member needs to send emails or call about our complaints because dvc needs that feed back to make a difference for the future.

we stayed at BCV in room 405 and i finally had to call down to housekeeping and ask for the foam mat, when they brought it up the mat was very thin. it didnt make toooo much a difference.

If I remember correctly, when we purchased at SSR we were told that the mattresses would be similar to those new foam mattresses that are on the market now. Supposed to be VERY comfortable.

I can testify that the new sofa bed foam mattresses are indeed extremely comfortable. Very firm but not hard.

I think it was even more comfortable than my $1000 mattress at home. Although, this may be because my big tushy has been putting a dent in my mattress for the past 8 years! LOL!

I think it is wonderful that DVC is upgrading the sofa beds....both of my kids have developed a strong dislike of them!!
My DD wanted to trade a 1BR for a studio at OKW when she realized she would have to sleep on the sofa bed.
I do remember our guide, Nick, mentioning that BCV would be getting new sofabeds...I can't remember the details though.
I will have to send an email to member services about sofa beds...thanks for reminding me, wdwstar.

Has anyone heard of any timetable for the sofa-bed replacements at BCV and BWV? I am bringing family Spring 2005 (probably BWV, my home resort) and was concerned about the comfort of one of the sets of adults who may need to sleep on one (the two kids are 5 and 7, so they should be fine on the other).

Even my sister who has a bad back was very comfortable on the new sleep sofas at OKW. When you do get one, don't hesitate to put adults on them. They are really great. They fold in and out really hard so I hope all the in's and out's won't put too much wear and tear on them too fast. The mechanisms need to last long too. It sort of slams as it folds like an accordian into the bottom of the sofa. Watch those fingers!!

I’ve stayed on the sofa sleeper at BCV and although it wasn’t as comfortable as the queen bed, it fulfilled the purpose. I wish that DVC/BCV would offer two queen beds in a few of the studio “lock-off” rooms for those who were willing to give up some of the space for comfort, rather than having the two queen layout dedicated to the few two bedrooms units. I can only hope.

I looked all over to try to find a brand name when we were at OKW and could not find one.
I think they will hold up quite well because there seem to be less moving parts and exposed hinges than a regular sleeper sofa. The hinges on the old ones sometimes got bent and also cut into the fabric. These didn't look like it would happen.
Another nice thing about them (although not a problem at OKW) is that the new sofas take quite a bit less room when folded out than the old ones did.

I would not think with BCV being a new resort it would be anytime soon. I think the usual rotation on mattresses is 5 years at the resorts.

That's what I thought too, but preious threads discussing this said DVC guides had said that BCV were likely the first ones to get replaced (after OKW which apparently has been done). I would think that BWV would be next.

I really think that making reasonably comfortable sleeping arrangements should be one of the top priorities of DVC. To say a 2-br sleeps 8 when it only has realistically comfortable bedding for 4 is ridiculous. Having a couch instead of a real bed may save space, and may me perfect for childless couples, those who don't bring guests, or those who can afford to get a 1-br for just two or a 2-br for just four. However, for most of us, having to jury rig the sofa bed or bring air matresses isn't what we should expect for our money.

Personally, I do like the studio with a bed and couch when its just me, my wife, and toddler daughter, but its very limiting otherwise (especially when used as the 2nd bedroom to a lock-off). I really think they should make a percentage of the studio's (especially one used as lock-offs) with 2 beds. That way you can request what you need or want.

Hopefully these new pull-out couches will be as amazing as reported and this will be a non-issue (best of both worlds). Lets hope that they are durable, however, and that Disney is diligent about maintaining them.

I am at BWV now and I have the living room sleeper sofa. I pulled it out the first night, it was OK. Last night I just slept on the couch, took off the back cushions and it seemed just as comfortable, didn't have to hassle with getting it pulled out and back in. I can't imagine two sleeping on the sleeper sofa would be comfortable.
