Sleeper Sofa vs a Real Bed, sleeping arrangements

I'm debating buying and 1 big thing holding me back is what our sleeping accomadations will be as our kids get older.

If we stay in a 1 bedroom, they can sleep on the sleeper sofa, assuming it's as comfortable as a real bed.

We have a boy and a girl, so eventually they aren't going to want to sleep together. What do we do then? Do we need a 2 bedroom or do we move to a Studio and each of us sleep with 1 of them?

We'd be buying at BCV and ideally staying there most of the time.

I just bought into DVC last year. My kids were 12 and 10--both boys. Since then, we have been to SSR in a studio and a 1 BR and to HHI in a 1 BR. I can tell you that I never want to do the studio again after staying in a 1 BR. I will probably consider staying in a studio on our first night as that is usually a Saturday, just to save points, but definitely not for more than one night. And even though I have enjoyed the 1 BRs, we are ready for the kids to have their own beds. The pull-outs are comfortable, but our boys tend to fight when they have to sleep together. Plus my husband is an early riser and sometimes wakes the boys in the mornings when making coffee. So we have decided that we will do a 2 BR from now on. I know it's more points, but I think it will be worth it. We will definitely have to add on more. We've already added on at HH since we want to go there on the years we don't do WDW. I feel good about the decision. In fact, I just booked next year's trip to AKV. We're staying in a concierge studio the first night, then moving to a 2 BR for 6 nights. It's really a matter of personal preference though.

Remember, too, that the 1 BRs at AKV and BLT have a sleeper chair in them so the kids don't have to sleep together. We considered a 1 BR at AKV for next year, but decided that we were too lazy to pull out a sofa and a chair. It also didn't solve our problem with wanting to use the kitchen in the mornings without disturbing the kids. DVC has spoiled us, I know!

The 1 bedroom villas at AKV (except for the value categvory) and BLT sleep 5. the living room has a sleep sofa (queen) and a sleep chair (twin). So if you stayed at one of those, the kids would not have to share a bed. Those villas also have two bathrooms.

Otherwise, you'll need a 2 bedroom.

One option is to purchase and bring with you an aerobad for one of the children to use if you want to be able to stay in a 1 bedroom and save the points needed to reserve a 2 bedroom.

Moving to a studio doesn't make sense... other than the OKW studios, you end up in the same situation as with a non-BLT or AKV one-bedroom... one queen and one pullout.

That's what we did in August. Our party consisted of..myself, my dd (33), other dd (15), and my dh joined us midway, and left before we did. My 15 y/o and I shared the king bed, while 33 y/o dd slept in the living room (and found it to be very comfy by the way). When my dh joined us, the 15 y/o moved to an aero bed we brought with us. We just put it over underneath the bar area. We left it there for the duration. She was comfy, there was plenty of room to move around it.
I would do that again anytime..it worked out quite well and is much better than having to use points for a second bedroom.

If you are really too lazy to pull out a sofa, then only a dedicated 2 bedroom would work for you and your kids. If you got a lock-off 2 bedroom you would still have to pull out a sofa.

We usually get a two bedroom. We have a son and daughter. Two bedrooms work out great. If we have to get a 1 bedroom we usually stay at OKW since they are the biggest. We bring a queen size aero bed and they take turns between the aero and the fold out couch. If we get a stuido for the first nite DD sleeps on a single aero. We drive so bringing items is not a problem.

We bought enough points at SSR so we would have the two bedrooms for the kids. Now that they are in college we invite extended family and friends down. We even bought more points to be sure we all can be comfortable.

We did get spoiled with the space.

That's exactly right! That's why I have a dedicated 2 BR savanna view booked at our home resort AKV for next fall! Both of my kids are excited to have their own bed on vacation!

Really we weren't planning on reserving a 2 BR until the next trip when we go back to HHI. The reason we want a 2 BR there is for the 2nd bathroom. But since we will need a 2 BR everywhere but AKV and BLT to get 2 bathrooms, I figured we might as well get one at AKV, too.
