We are looking at sleep number beds, love the memory foam one, but its a lot of money. Has anyone bought the lowest level C2 and then put their own memory foam topper on it and I read someone unzipped it and placed the topper inside the mattress. Ever heard of anyone doing this and did the like it?

Thanks

I wish I could have a sleep number bed. But if you have the sleep number, why would you need the memory foam? Just asking.

You need to try it you'll see. Sleep Number makes a memory foam mattress with the sleep number chamber under it its amazing!

Never tried what you're asking but several years ago we got a sleep number bed and we LOVE it! DH has severe arthritis so the bed was an investment for us but I love it too. He is a big guy and used to wake me up when he got up or turned in bed now with the chambers I don't feel him get up anymore. Also my side can be soft (35-40) and his side is firmer (60+) and we can both adjust if we're hurting for some reason.

The ONLY downside is when you go on vacation the beds at any hotel just won't compare and make it so vacations aren't very restful because the beds are uncomfortable no matter how nice and we don't sleep as well as we do at home. I feel like princess and the pea because I can feel ever spring digging into me on a regular mattress now.

As for putting the topper on it I think that would work. We put just a regular mattress pad on ours just because I was concerned we might get something on our mattress (we have pets) and its so expensive I wanted to protect it. We got a low-middle range one (i forget which but it wasn't a high end one or the lowest either) and haven't had any issues in over 3 years of having it. :) we also put our bed together ourselves and it wasn't hard so don't pay extra for installation.

Anyway not sure I answered your question but I do like to rave about my bed whenever possible. :thumbsup2

We love our sleep number too! Really helps with dh back issues. We do not have the foam option (wasn't around) but I would think it would work fine.

I did that with their lowest model years ago and found it very comfortable. I just put one of those costco memory foam toppers on it. It needed the foam topper--I was waking up with a back ache before doing that, but the topper made all the difference.

We got rid of our Sleep Number and bought the Tempur-Pedic, they did not have the memory foam when we got the Sleep Number and you could feel every move on that mattress, we put a 2" memory foam pad we bought at Sam's on it and it helped a little. If DH rolled over the whole bed moved. Hated it. I would go and try tany bed before buying.

We have a sleep better bed (I think the company is now dream better or dream number or something like that) which is a less expensive version than the sleep number bed. We put a topper on our bed and it works well. We did have a good experience with the company as the pump wasn't working well after three years so we called the company and they sent us a new one no problem. ANYWAY, we found the topper (which was a down material on top of memory foam) did not compromise the mattress and its intended purpose at all.

We went back to the store and talked to our sales person he was very helpful, it seems it is not that unusual to put the topper on the models that don't have memory foam. In fact they even sell a memory foam topper, but of course it was expensive. We bought the C4 and went to Costco and bought the memory foam with gel beads to keep it cooler.

To anyone who is interested they have a medical discount of 25%, I am a RN. It seemed like not all the sales people readily gave out that information.

I guess we are in the minority. We got a Sleep Number about five years ago and got rid of it three years ago. Absolutely hated it! The problem was the ineer workings of the mattress had two different air chambers on either side (a queen-sized bed) and a piece of foam dividing them in the middle. We would constantly be rolling towards the middle of the bed because the darn foam piece could never stay level with the air chambers. We contacted the Sleep Number store where we bought it, and they gave us another foam piece to put in the middle. It didn't help, and we were constantly adjusting those foam pieces. By the end, my back hurt so bad every morning from ending up sleeping at weird angles due to the unevenness of the bed that we just bought a basic mattress to sleep on while we save up for a Tempur-Pedic. It was an expensive lesson. :(
If you do try out a Sleep Number in the store, make sure after they find your perfect "number" that you actually move around afterwards rolling towards the middle, the edge, your side, etc.

The sleep better bed doesn't have that foam in the middle so it alleviates that problem. That's why we went with it instead of a sleep number bed (that and the cost!)

We bought the M7......awesome, incredible bed. Love it and would highly recommend it.

As for the medical professional discount - when we purchased it in January, the medical professional discount was 40%. Made an extreme difference in the price. I am surprised the discount dropped as it had been the 40% forever.

At 40% I would have probably purchased the M7 but we saw the discount, it is 25%. They are offering 35% to chiropractors but then you have to put a display in your office to advertise.

We have three sleep number beds in our house. Mine is the top of the line and it is very nice. Now I bought my daughters a middle grade one, and I don't like it at all. It does have a memory foam top but not as thick as mine and it feels like you are sleeping on an air mattress. And for what they cost I don't think they are worth it. At first they loved the new mattress, but we have have them for less than a year and I am ready to buy a new one. The middle seams to sag in theirs, and if you are laying in the bed and someone else gets in the bed raises up just like an air mattress would. Now my mattress like I said was there most expensive and it is very nice and comfortable. You don't feel any movement at all went someone gets in or off the bed. So I really like the top of the line bed but I would never but a lower grade every again.

We love ours and have had it about 13 years. We have put a 4" memory foam topper on it when we bought ours that wasn't an option. I do hate sleeping on all other beds now.

We were looking at buyig one but my brother HATED his! He said the middle was awful and if you are a couple that tends to not just stay on one side then it's uncomfortable and awful so I now I don't know what to do!

The one time I slept on a sleep number bed I absolutely hated it. It felt like sleeping on a glorified air mattress (and to me, that's all it is) and I am so glad we slept on one before we did anything like buy one.

We've had our sleep number bed a week now, its awesome. I don't understand the glorified air mattress comments it is nothing like and air bed you can't even tell its not a regular mattress. Love the fact its adjustable.

Could you please tell us which one you got!?
