I have a horrible back and am looking into sleep number bed or tempurpedic. Any opinions of either or? I tried sleep number out at the mall and was totaly relaxed? What do you think.

We've had the sleep number for years. Actually decided to upgrade to a king at one point. My dad has our old queen and loves his. Swears he sleeps better now than he ever had.

I didn't do well with the memory foam ones. They are too hot to sleep on and the pillows hurt my neck, so I didn't want to bother with the bed. That is just my personal preference though.

I highly suggest going for a pillow top for the sleep number if you do. It makes the world of difference.

I have a ton of back issues and they have been far better since I got this bed. Plus depending on my pains (if I hurt it while working around the house) I can adjust my bed to fit my needs. Since I am stubborn and work it too hard, this happens more than I want to admit :rolleyes1

I no longer wake up to back pain and I do sleep wonderfully on my bed. My DH who has no real back issues likes it as well.

It is NOT for everyone though, and I will admit it. But we've had ours over 5 years now and am in heaven :) My DH won't even consider another type of bed now!

My inlaws have had one for years now. Also with a pillowtop and they LOVE it. We're not looking for a new mattress yet, but when we do we are thinking of splurging on one too. I like that you can change it... like having lots of diff beds in one :)

We've had ours for at least 10 years now, it's been moved three times, and I still love it! Ours is a queen size, pillowtop, and has held up really well. The only problem is that we are completely spoiled by it, and sleeping away from home can be a problem. I tend to keep my number low and now find it really hard to get to sleep on a regular mattress, because they always seem too hard. The Select Comfort beds are worth every penny, and I know that when the time comes, we will be repeat customers. :goodvibes

I have neither but have heard the memory foam beds can be hard to get out of as you sink into the foam. I also wouldn't like it due to the warmth. I do have a 2" topper on my regular matteress that has made a world of difference in our comfort.

Happy mattress shopping! :thumbsup2

I am the dissenting view, here. We have had ours for 5 years, and hate it. I just ordered a new mattress and foundation.

We've had ours for a little over 3 years. I don't really care for it, but DH loves it and there really isn't any other option for us (I like sleeping on soft comfortable mattresses, and he prefers sleeping on concrete ;) - this way, we can have two mattresses at the same time....sort of.)

Wow, there went the good run -if you don't mind, what is it you don't like?

Thanks

I'm sorry. We bought the queen size pillowtop with the dual controls. There are baffle type things in the center of each section surrounded by a foam support. There is a support in the center of the two sections. Now we probably should have purchased the king, but the salesman said that the pillowtop would cushion the center. The sleep area was smaller because you cannot use the support on the side. We would adjust the firmness, and as soon as one of us got in or out of bed it would change. Well, the support in the middle was not enough after maybe 3 months, so I called CS, and they were sympathetic, but not helpful. I got more foam for the center, this dod not help. I called several times, and was told that the salesperson should known that the queen would not work for us, but that we were out of luck. I explained that the issues happened after the trial had passed, but not very long after. The CS said there was nothing that could be done. The foam supports have broken down, and the support in the middle was never enough. Now I know that my DH is a big guy, but we discussed his size with the salesman, he is 6'5" and is built like Charles Atlas.

I think if there had been any effort to make it right beside shipping more foam separators for the center I would have been okay with this, but to agree that the salesman should not have sold us this bed, but led us to a King, and then to say that yes it was unusual, but that since it did not happen in the trial period, left me irritated.

We could have forced them to honor a warrantee, but I am so glad to get rid of it. We purchased a conventional set, and I show anyone who is interested the bed, and tell them where I purchased it, just as I promised the CS department that I would do. My DH offered to give it to the furniture department where we bought the new set.....I hope he was kidding.

If you decide to purchase one, I hope that your luck is better than ours.

We've owned the TempurPedic and the Sleep Number Bed, and we prefer the Sleep Number bed.

The TempurPedic was a little too firm for our tastes, and it "slept hot" in the summer because it retained our body heat a LITTLE too well. We owned it for about 5 years and decided to change because my husband kept having neck pain that didn't subside.

We like the Sleep Number bed because of the ability to change softness/firmness. We bought a king, but didn't spring for the pillow-top. Instead, we bought the deluxe mattress pad. It ended up being cheaper that way, and we think (hope) just as comfortable. My husband's neck pain went away after we started using it.

my wife and I bought a sleep number last summer and we love it. We got the deluxe package (Where the bed is also adjustable at the head and foot, sort of like Craftmatic, and has a built in massage feature). My wife gets sinus infections so sleeping with her head higher has pretty much kept her free of them for the past year. One thing that sounded good that I wouldn't recomment (especially for newly weds like I am) is the "Split King" option. It lets you each have your head and feet levels different. However the effect is essentially you have two twins instead of one king.

I agree with Nancyg56 about the issues with the support for the middle of the bed, but since almost every conventional matress also has issues with the middle of the bed wearing out first, I don't consider this a deal breaker.

If we needed to buy another bed I would buy another Select Comfort. After many years of use it hardly shows any wear.

we had one and didn't like it either....ours seemed slanted. Our heads felt lower than our feet. and the middle thing was a pain especially if you like to cuddle with your sweetie. We bought a Heavenly bed and all I have to say is ....It is heavenly! Love it!

we had the queen BTW and I'd had heard of more complaints with the queen of course AFTER we'd made the purchase.

good luck.

Ours is a queen, too... I wonder if the king would work any better for us....not like we have the room anyway.

We don't have a sleep number, but wanted to post for anyone considering it vs. the Tempurpedic. We have the queen size Tempurpedic and I wanted to agree with others when they say it's a hot bed. It's actually too hot in the summer. Wife and I have had to buy another "regular" bed to sleep on in the spring/summer and then move the Tempurpedic in for the fall/winter.

If I had to do it over, I'd never buy the same bed again. I like a cool bed.

We love our SN bed . I have RLS and now I sleep with no problems .We also have the Queen Split Pillowtop and the middle is not that bad . I do once a week pump it up to 95 and let it sit like that for the day to help with the streching that might occur over a long period.

I'm a 15 for sleep and 40 for sitting here DISing . DW is a 30

We just bought a Sleep Number bed about a month ago. I can sleep on just about anything (except maybe the floor), so I don't see/feel much difference. It's comfy, and I have absolutely no complaints about it, though...and I do like that I can change it if I've strained by back during the day or anything.

DH, on the other hand, always had a lot of back pain, and he is IN LOVE with this bed. Raves about it to anyone who is dumb enough to ask him about it. :rotfl: I don't think he will ever want anything else.

Oh, and we have a King Size with the pillowtop.

I know this is an old thread but I did a search for sleep number and found this thread.

Has anyone (especially in Texas) ever heard of "the sleep BETTER bed" ?
Seems like a sleep number bed but with all the kinks worked out,

No valley (when someone gets up) and they state you can't feel the center. check it out at www.sleepbetterstore.com

Let me know if anyone has heard of this company

Thanks
Joanna

I've had the pillow top queen for 5 years-LOVE IT. I sleep like a dead person on this thing. It was worth every penny.
