Sleep around points

What resort did you consider the points as SAP
Our SAP contract would be our AKV. When we joined DVC we had no urge to stay at AKV. We were 3 years into our membership before we used our AKV points at AK-J.
What resort and room size did you use them
For the first 8 years of our membership we usually booked Studios.
What time period was your stay
We usually go in March and October
How far in advance did you book- exactly at 7 months for example
We usually look at exactly 7 months

When we joined DVC the 'deal' was pre-construction AK. About 3 to 4 years later it became very hard to find studios in BC or BW so we purchased a small contract with the idea we could stay every other year, using the banking feature, but we still needed to book right at 11 months.

We have used our SAP points from 7 to 5 months out at SSR, OKW, PVB, BLT, HHI and Vero. Last year over July 4 I was able to find a preferred studio at SSR for 6 nights 2 months out.

After one stay in Congress Park - I changed my mind about SSR - It was a ground-floor studio closest to the bus and I never waited long for the bus. On solo trips when I can not get BW SV I will go for SSR - I like the ability to walk the springs at night.

We bought SSR in 2004 because that is what was for sale and I didn´t know anything about resale. We go every year and I don´t think we have stayed at SSR in the last 10 years.

I thought I had written this post when I saw your reply!

Literally this. We bought SSR because it was for sale and it’s all we knew that existed to buy. Likewise, we haven’t stayed at SSR in over 10 years. So while they were never purchased as SAP points, we definitely use them as such.

We have stayed at BWV, BLT, BCV, BR, VGC, AKL, and OKW.

Since purchasing APs a couple days ago, we now have 5 nights in August booked in a BLT lake view studio and a 4 night October trip in a RIV tower studio!

We will be staying at our home resort, SSR, in two weeks, the first time in over ten years. I have heard lots of good things about the rehab, so I wanted to give it a try.

The rooms are absolutely beautiful IMO. The first time I stayed there in 2021 was right after the refurb had happened and I didn't even realize it then but it was my introduction to DVC and we were very impressed. Like I've said multiple times before if SSR actually was difficult to book I'd probably own there.

I researched 7 month booking windows pre purchase and ignored the mantra ‘buy where you want to stay’ as :

1. I didn’t want to stay in 1 place.
2. We stay 1 beds.
3. I was educated as to availability for 1 beds.

In the last 7 years alone I’ve booked (off the top of my head). Most of these are for 5- 7 nights stays not 1 night.

Boardwalk standard view 2 bed. Summer.
Boardwalk Pool view 1 bed, Christmas. (Boardwalk 1 beds are easy to get).
Beach Club 1 bed, Christmas. I’ve had no issue booking 1 beds here- booked and cancelled another over Covid.
Copper Creek 1 bed, October i think that was.
Grand Californian 1 bed, summer, 3 times in a row (didn’t go on two though due to Covid and we are in UK, went last summer at last). People say it’s impossible to book, not with a bit of walking in a 1 bed it isn’t.
Grand Floridian studio (that one was only a night, booked September 2021).
Animal Kingdom 1 bed standard. Another one that’s really easy to get.
BLT 1 bed, New Year. Saw NY fireworks from Top of the World.
Saratoga 1 bed, Christmas.
Riviera standard studio, April I think that was.
Boulder Ridge studio- April again.
Poly studio- August.
Vero- just before Xmas last year, 1 bed.

Ironically our home resort SSR is currently our favourite post refurb, and I’m actually staying there next Xmas by choice I think (booked anyway I don’t think we will change as we love it so much).

Tenacity and walking sometimes for those really popular ones wins the day.

Given the price increases on tickets and Genie etc, soon we will be transitioning away from park days and using it as a month long winter vacation spot for me and my wife In studios. For this I intend to stay mainly SSR for Disney Springs proximity and Vero, perhaps with some days up at Hilton Head. All part of the master plan. Vero is one of the rare resorts where it’s easier to get a studio than 1 bed and is nearly always bookable at 7 months.

Sleeparound points have been fantastic for us, but as I say, ironically and unexpectedly SSR has actually become our favourite anyway now.

I think my wife and I will also use our membership as a winter vacation spot on occasion no parks just relaxation.
