Sleep Apnea Machine Question

My mother is cruising with us on this cruise. She has sleep apnea and has one of those machines she uses at night. She uses distilled or purified (not sure the difference) water in the machine. If I fill out the medical form and fax it in will they have that water available for her in the stateroom along with an extension cord? Do we need to bring our own water & extension cord? Is there a cost for this? Thanks for answering my questions.

my husband has a CPAP machine & we've always brought our own extention cord - he always keeps one in his carry-on because you never know if a hotel will have one or not. I would recommend carrying one anyway because of the few outlets in the rooms. He doesn't need the water so I can't help you with that one

My dad has a CPAP machine too and I believe he told me he took his own gallon container of water. As long as you tell DCL that you need the water, they should ok it.

My DH also has one...they always examine it at the airport like it is an unknown new life force.

We always bring our own cord, because you have to make sure you return the borrowed one to DCL or they charge you $50, and we just don't want to have to worry about accidentally packing it.

If you fill out the medical form and fax it in they will leave a gallon of distilled water in your stateroom. My husband uses a CPAP and we did this the first time we cruised. Since then he has stopped traveling with the water section and just uses it w/out the water when we travel. He's never had any issues.

Yes yes yes on the extension cord (maybe even two). I only bought one and usually like sleeping on the right side of the bed, but my extension cord only reached the left side, which was a total pain and I didn't sleep well the entire time I was on board. So next time 3 cords! 2 for me and 1 for all the other things we need to charge up.

If you complete the medical form and Fax it in, they will supply the water and an extension cord. As you can tell from the above, many people find it easier to pack their own cord.

There is no charge for the water. There is no charge for the cord provided that it is left in the room.

The outlets in the room are not "handy" to the bed, so get a long one!

My MIL uses one. She faxed the medical form in. They provided her with the distilled water, but not the extension cord. I think she did ask for the cord, but when they brought it to her, it was actually too short for her purposes. She had brought her own though (I think she doubted they would have the right kind).

I have an extension cord and a three prong outlet that I leave in the Cpap bag just for travel. There's enough room for that and the hoses and machine with very little problem. I do think with the outlet situation on DCL you need two extension cords even if you sleep on the left side unless the one is pretty long.

I use Distilled at home and regular bottled on the ship. In one week it doesn't leave a film on the sides so it's not an issue.

I have a question that goes along with this. I will be traveling with a CPAP machine too. Does my doctor have to sign my form to get the water and extension cord or can I just fax it in without the signature? I do not have to go back to the doctor for 6 months and that will be after my cruise. So, I was just trying to save myself the trip.

Thanks everyone! You guys are great!! Definitely will tell her to bring her own cord (maybe 2). And the water sounds like DCL will provide. Thanks again. I too would like to know if she needs her Dr. to sign off on this.

faxed in a signed medical form - gallon of distilled water in the room upon check in - but no extension cord

extension cord available from guest services - $50 deposit

and I was asked in the dining room if i needed "special water"

we took our own extension cord...but we just asked our room steward for distilled water...they brought us a gallon jug, no questions asked.

If you happen to route your hose over/behind your headboard at home, you'll want to have to duct tape to fasten the hose to the wall of your stateroom.

I didn't have to have the form signed by my doctor. I just filled it out and faxed it in. Didn't know they would give an extension cord also! I had brought my own!
