Skyliner breakdown and BWVs

If you wanted peace and quiet why would you buy at Boardwalk in the first place? You look at the way it is set up and you can tell it was intended to be a louder and more crowded area. Just because they didn't get the crowds they originally expected, I think it is sort of naïve to expect it to always remain that way. Disney's goal is always going to be to drive as much business as possible to the Boardwalk. They want to have successful stores, clubs, restaurants and activities on the Boardwalk. Disney always intended for it to be a lively and happening place. They want to have people wonder over there from YC, BC, Swan, Dolphin, soon the Cove and the IG to spend money.

I bought BWV for F&W, to walk to/from...point blank period. I aim for quiet rooms if I can, though. So BW or standard view isn't best there in regards to quiet. We just, like 3 weeks ago, had standard 1BR and it was right by the front portico and very noisy/busy with constant airport trucks unloading luggage. We once had a side BW view (really P/G view where it looks at the green grass lawn area) and that too was noisy. These locations will just get noisier as the area picks up crowds from gondolas (and it has). I get it but I don't like it. Shoulda bought BCV as it's tucked back a bit and more quiet. Oh well...we didn't.

If people Uber/Lyft from the Boardwalk, it seems to me the Skyliner had very little to do with them in the first place.
I mean, I doubt many guests at Pop are going to spend $100 at Jellyrolls plus pay an Uber back, just to ride one way on the Skyliner. Heck, Jellyrolls isn’t even super close to the Skyliner.

The Skyliner currently is closing at 10:30PM that is early for Jellyrolls. The Skyliner would supply the transportation to Jellyrolls which would include a short walk but unless those going to Jellyrolls from the Skyliner resorts want to cut their night short they would need a ride back to their respective resorts. Since those guests are saving so much on lodging they may not mind spending an extra $100 (which in reality could be much less than that amount) at Jellyrolls but they need a way back so I guess the best choice would be Uber? Not sure what is so hard to understand about that.

Well your question does seem a bit snarky, but....
If they are going to visit JR, they are going to visit JR, regardless if they have a gondola to ride or not. I highly doubt they are just going to JR so they can ride one way on the gondola. Heck, they could ride round trip for free.
JR (last I knew) had a steep cover and drinks were not cheap. I don’t see two people getting out of there, including Uber home, for less than $100.

I did a quick search and cover charge as of 10/17/19 is $15 per person. The last time I was there it was $10 per person.

A person may or may not spend $100 or more for a few hours at Jellyrolls. I guess that would depend on what they drink, maybe a coke/pepsi drinker wouldn't spend as much as someone drinking an alcoholic beverage. Either way it doesn't really matter.

I hope you are right and people aren't taking the Skyliner one way to JR and that they won't be willing to put out the cash needed to have a few hours of fun at JR. I hope the Skyliner doesn't have a negative effect on the enjoyment of those guests staying in the Epcot area resorts. In the end it will be what it will be regardless what you or I think.

The only time I used one was a Minnie Van, and it was $25 from OKW to GF, and that was with a $10 discount. Regular Lyft and Uber is supposed to be cheaper.

Was that ride during a surge pricing time? Both Uber and Lyft exercise a sliding price scale based on demand. Prices go up at park closing and typically when the bars close.

It included a $3 surge which I assume was some kind of pre park opening fee. We had preopening breakfast reservations at Hollywood & Vine. Waited 40 minutes for a bus that never game despite being assured that it was due to arrive 10 minutes after we arrived. So we had to Uber it so we wouldn't miss our reservation.

We use Uber at WDW. It's always about $10-15 for a ride. Sometimes 2 of us and sometimes 4. So we would not hesitate to do it after having some fun at Jellyrolls. Though we'd likely be at AbracadBar or ESPN Club. We went to MK and monorailed over to CR to have drinks and watch some game at Outer Rim. We were planning to Uber back to BWV but SIL and BIL were with us and they had their car at TTC so they dropped us off at BWV.

So lets see, we have $30 for 2 to get into JRs and approx. $12 for the Uber that equals $42. That leaves us $58 for beverages and if you are a coke drinker I think you could have a few hours at JRs for under $100.

I looked further and found that wine (my beverage of choice) runs between $8 and $12 per glass depending on what you drink. My DH drinks Tangueray and tonic, not sure how much that would be but he doesn't drink much so probably one drink would be enough for him. Looks like we could have a few and still stay under $100. Oh happy days! Just kidding.

Maybe. But I’m guessing that the BWV and RIV pools may see this happening more than YC/BC. SAB is pretty closely monitored for pool crashers..

Been reading this thread for a while tonight. I personally don't think things will be terrible as long as the Skyliner stays running (which I think it will). I also want to outline that as long as they increase staff to match the increase guest count at Boardwalk locations I am good. The ONLY thing I will say is I wish Disney held restaurant reservations for resort guests (although I know this would never happen and would be hard to balance likely).

I really don't see how "people paying a premium to stay in the Epcot area" should have had any expectation of it staying quiet.

See also: People paying a premium for Contemporary and having the traffic for Chef Icky and Cali Grill.
People paying a premium for Poly and having lines out the door for Trader Sam's specialty mugs, and people all over the lobby at every hour for 'Ohana.
People paying a premium for Grand FLoridian to have people taking a nap in the lobby mid-day.

I would expect nappers to be escorted out of the lobby. As for the others those were always a thing were they not? The Skyliner is added way after the fact.

Expecting an undeveloped area to stay undeveloped for 15+ years is generally not reasonable in most urban areas. And WDW qualifies.

What was undeveloped though? They leveled part of a resort, built a more expensive resort, and then built a back door in to Epcot right on top what existed.

This is really like the neighborhood over from me, where they are all shocked that a plat near them that has been zoned a certain kind of commercial for 20 years is being developed... and it's being developed commercially according to its zoning. So the trees and open field will be gone, and they're wringing their hands about how this ruins everything.

It's been zoned for this for decades. And the reality is that Disney could have been redeveloping the back of Epcot for decades as well.

Haha I seemed to mark a few of your comments. Nothing was "zoned", expected, or needed though for skyliner. Was Skyliner ever even looked at until recently when they wanted to be able to charge $$$$$ for RIV? I would also argue it would have made more sense to send RIV straight north to the front of Epcot and then connected that station to OKW. I mean they are putting in that whole new big entrance.

Buses are what buses are. On two separate occasions in June I waited 45 and 50 minutes to catch a bus from HS to WL, Stuff happens, why worry yourselves about it, life goes on.

I will say the buses at AKV were terrible and I waited multiple times with the longest being like 1hr 10mins from Epcot to AKV (without the drive just the wait in line). That being said its why moving forward BWV, BWC, and BLT will really be the only resorts we stay at likely unless I plan on renting a car and driving to the parks.

I am talking about Flying Fish being specifically for BWV guests or V+A being held specifically for GFV guests. Yes hotel guests get 180+10 but I wouldn't really book that anyways for anything ever. Basically out V+A Chef's Table, Fireworks timing at Cali, and Cali Brunch I don't think anything else requires that +10 if you really want the reservation.

My whole point is it would be nice to have more flexibility when staying at the resort to get things last minute. Even if it was still limited seating (even a single table in certain restaurants).
