Skyauction...what do you think of this??

Okay, I know lots of you check out Skyauction for Orlando deals...did anyone see this? There's an auction (make that 2) for a 2bdrm at Summer Bay showing several dates of availability...with what looks like a starting minimum bid of $399. If you add the $210 processing fees, etc., that means the auction starts at $609! I wonder if this is going to be the direction SA is heading...ouch! I guess if you are the only bidder and win it for that rate it's okay, but compared to the deals to be had previously on this site, this doesn't look good, IMHO. I've also been dismayed at seeing the "upgrade" fees for 2+ bdrms or the "better" resorts, and the extra surcharges for certain dates.

What do you guys think??

Yes I also look there...figure you never know when a deal will show it's self...but haven't found one yet (not after you add all those fees in small print)

Well, it might not be a GREAT deal, but if you add the $399 and the $210, you still have a beautiful 2 bed-room for $87 a night. That isn't bad.

Now, I wouldn't bid on this because I know I can do better with RSG auctions (ofcourse, they might not be as nice as SB) but maybe someone staying at a place for $150 a night will think this is a steal.

And if this was all I could get, I might think about it. We're so used to paying $30-40 a night, that this doesn't sound like a deal, but in reality, maybe it is.

I agree with you, $87 isn't too bad for a 2-bdrm...though we know how to get them for less. Guess we're really spoiled because of the great deals we've found previously on Skyauction. I've got a current reservation, but was hoping to stumble onto a great deal, and it doesn't look like that will happen. April (our trip) is not the best month for deals either...the RSG auctions are slim pickins. Something may come up at the very last minute, but we can't afford to have several hundred $$ tied up in a pending refund for a cancelled reservation (paid in advance). Oh well...perhaps I should just stop looking...but I can't help myself!!

I'm actually considering a resale timeshare because of the this. There is an auction I am watching, but most of the places I am interested in staying at have a surcharge of $100-$200, and if you are planning to travel during the summer, add ANOTHER $100. to that for a seasonal surcharge. All of a sudden, I could be up to $800-$900.

"RSG" is short for "Ready, Set, Go", which is a type of auction on Skyauction where available resort weeks are listed. If you do a search on Skyauction and type in "ready" as a keyword, it will pull up the current RSG auctions and you can check them out. Generally, you can win one for about $50 (not sure what they're going for currently, though), and then adding on Skyauction's other fees, it totals about $260, give or take, for a full week. It's a great deal IF you can find availability at a good resort for your travel dates, and you win the auction.

I agree...fees upon surcharges...it begins to add up and suddenly it's cheaper to go a different route.
