SkyAuction Blowout time

Just as a quick PSA:

If you plan to buy one or more of these, it is best to be very flexible about when you can travel, what resorts you would accept, and what size units you'd need. Every few months, we have someone venting about not being able to find anything for their dates---or, if anything is available, it is at an additional cost.

These can be great bargains, but they are for truly distressed inventory.

I do go at off times and have found skyauction to be quite a bargain. No, it's not as good as it used to be but I can still find nice places at good prices. I bought 2 of these certificates yesterday and already booked a place for November. I did get one for an additional cost but even with that it only cost about $260/week for a 2 bedroom at Cypress Palms. I've been there before and it's a nice place.

You purchase weeks in advance and then when you are ready to go, you look on the website and see what is available for your dates.

We only travel off-season and we are a family of 5, so it is so much nicer for us to spread out in a one or two bedroom condo than a small hotel room.

Typically these are the older RCI condos that RCI owners don't want to use any longer. There are often only 2 floors, access from the outside with stairs and no elevator.

We have stayed several times at Orbit One and this last time at Celebrity Resorts. Both are nice for the cost of this promo. I wouldn't want to pay full price for them though.

What is this and how does it work?

I have noticed the inventory has changed. In our early days of using SkyAuction we would always choose Vacation Village. It was new and nice.

Now it is typically older units. I haven't stayed in a newer unit for two years.

We still like it though. It allows us to get to Disney far more often.

I agree with Brian. SkyAuction isn't the bargain it used to be.

In the past we've stayed at Cypress Pointe Phase I and II, Grande Beach and Vacation Village several times. This past Skyauction sale I looked at the rciredemption website and Cypress Pointe was available in late August for a $599/week upcharge! :scared1: Umm, no thanks! I'll just do two Priceline rooms and then I won't feel compelled to cook because I'll have no kitchen ;). We'll just have to order out all week! Woe is me, woe is me. :rotfl2:
