Just booked myself and DD this lounge.

I know some argue that you don't get your "time and money" worth but I figure I will be buying a magazine or two for each of us, a newspaper, a couple of coffees and juices and some snacks. At an airport that is already almost the £24.50 it costs. And since I like to be early for everything  we will most likely clear security with plenty of time to enjoy a couple of hours in there.

Anyone used this one? Has it had a revamp (it has been unavailable for booking for the last 6 months or so, even via a travel agent or by phone)?

I have read mixed reviews about it being very out of the way from the boarding gates. A first hand report from one of our trusty DISers would be great.

TIA

We used it 3 years ago - my friend is a travel agent and whilst she was checking the holiday costs for some reason premium flights and economy flights with Thomas Cook were coming in at exactly the same price so we booked the premium funnily enough and this allowed us access to the Sky Lounge. Was a very nice, relaxing way to wait for a flight!! I was drinking G&T at 8 am on a nice comfortable leather (if I remember correctly) couch - lol!!

Do it and enjoy!!!

mo x

Your memory serves you correctly according to the website - the couches are leather. :) Mmmmm, G&T ... Don't think could drink it at 8 am but we only fly at 2 pm so I could probably manage one at lunch time.

I am allowed to cancel up to 24 hours before checking in there so if anyone objects to my decision to book it, please do so before then :rotfl:

We used it last month and I was a little disappointed! Boyfriend paid for it as a treat so glad I didn't pay for it, lol.

It was great being in a quiet area but the food options were rubbish :( All that was available when we went were croissants that were a bit stale and a couple of biscuits :confused3

You're probably in a better position as we both felt as our flight was at 9am we didn't really take advantage as much as we could have. If your flights in the afternoon you may well make use of a few drinks.

Boyfriend said he'd probably do it again as he hates flying and he felt it was easier for him being in a relatively (it does get quite busy) quiet area. I don't know if I would bother paying the money for it again, though.

Thanks for that. I am not expecting too much in the way of food as it is more snacks anyway, but thought the kids area might help keep DD occupied for a bit. I find it quite tiring hauling about our hand luggage, especially when she gets bored and there is still an hour or two to kill. I had hoped she could sit and watch the planes because she will amuse herself doing this for hours on end, but I read somewhere that only the Business Lounge area has a runway view so maybe not.

Is it quite a trek from the gates?

No, no you can have a view of the runway in the Holiday Wing too. I don't remember seeing a Kids area though? We also didn't see the PS2 which is mentioned. Saying that though I don't think there was alot of kids around when we went. There was PC's you could go on the net for free on though.

This thread over on the Dibb gives you a much better idea of what it's like :thumbsup2 Although it is slightly different looking now.

Thanks. You have to log in to see the one on the Dibb, but I did read some of the other threads on there yesterday.

DD not bothered about PSP. She would be happy on the internet - didn't know they had PCs there - I thought she would be using my laptop.

I dont think, when they say kids area, that there is a whole lot to it, but if there are a few books/magazines and one or two things to do she would be quite happy. She loves drawing, coloring in and doing crosswords and puzzles, but I am trying to save those things for on the plane between movies (when she was really wee, I used to call those saved novelties my "Get out of jail free cards" ;)). I'll give it a try then I will hopefully be able to help someone else out with questions afterwards. :) It isn't that much money and I usually spend at least £10 on coffees for myself, plus a magazine, juice for DD and something for her to read .... So in a way it is pretty much paid for, if you know what I mean.

:)

Its depends on what gate your flights at how far a walk your going to have.

The skylounge is next to the drum and monkey bar and dixons, if you know where they are. Its a bit of a walk from security.

If your flight is at gate 36 then it wont be that far and theirs moving walkways most of the way.

If its gate 31 or 32 then you have a long walk to the very end of the pier, which will be very busy in the middle of the afternoon as emirates leaves at roughly the same time as virgin. They have about 800 passengers between them!

What airline are you travelling with?

Virgin Atlantic - 2.05 pm scheduled departure time. I don't know the international departure section of Glasgow Airport. I have always gone from Edinburgh or else done a domestic from Glasgow to MAN or one of the London airports so a bit clueless. :confused3

If you were to go straight to the deperture gate from checkin then it would be a hell of a walk, possibly up to 30 minutes depending on how busy the airport is. Its not too bad though since you'll be splitting it up.

My advice would be to go to the departure gates 50-60minutes before departure time, however not to the actual gate your flights departing from because it will be rammed with people, and it will get incredibly warm and uncomfortable. Just take a seat anywhere that you can see an information screen and watch that and keep an ear open for announcements. Dont go to the gate until your flight is actually showing as boarding on the screen.

The virgin flights leave from nearer the far end of the pier as the stands at the near end arent big enough to accomodate it. It gets roasting up that end, stay away from the gate for as long as possible!!

Thank you, that is good advice. I really appreciate it!

In light of the foregoing, do you think I am better off just cancelling the lounge and buying snacks and bevs and sitting nearer that gate? They usually tell you to be at your gate for boarding at least 40 minutes before hand so I assume your calculation of an hour includes this time (around 20 minutes). I also have to add another 20 minutes for me to get lost and ask for help :rotfl: No, I am not kidding :rolleyes1
