Skull Island: Reign of Kong

We saw SA early on in the morning.........we did the regular line as it was quiet at 9am and yep, SA got me good......

I love being scared and being frightened though.........so much fun!

If folks don't like it, avoid the ride. It can happen anytime.

We saw this last year and we had Express passes. The line merged REALLY early on. It may have changed since then, though.

That's how it was last August when we were there. In fact I looked right at the guy that was going to jump out and he hid back behind the wall.

Line must have changed since then, I went last week and the express line was a completely different line and never merged. It was just a narrow hallway that went around the main line. We could see over into the witches room but other than that we never saw the main line. I'm sort of disappointed I missed the scares but I guess waiting 10 minutes instead of 100 made up for that.

I've only ever done the EP line, and we've never seen the scare actors. It is mostly a walled passage, so I'm not sure where they'd hide except the one part mentioned where it looks into the witch room. But I'm not sure you could ever be 100% sure.

WOW! Okay, so our experience was very untypical then! I did the ride yesterday with my preteen daughter. We went just after 9am, so it was pretty empty, and we are both fairly tough, so we didn't expect to be frightened. The jump scare actor TERRIFIED my daughter, so badly she fell, taking me with her. She was bleeding. I was badly bruised. We laughed it off afterwards, and Universal acted very promptly, was very apologetic and offered to make it right. I'm guessing the actors aren't supposed to scare kids and didn't realize how young she was!! Next we do it, we're definitely hollering "I don't want a fight!" on our way down the hall!

Yikes! That is so not fun to me. I do not like to be startled like that in the least. I can't believe I may have to skip this ride. Does anyone actually want to be startled like this?

I think people who like Halloween haunts would love it. And the theming of the line is excellent. I think if the line up were packed it would've been different. Strength in numbers! Again, Universal was very apologetic and reached out to us when they heard what had happened. There was another family behind us with two little kids, and they didn't see any actors at all.

There are a couple spots where there are sometimes scare actors in the normal line. My daughter did not want to be scared so we talked about it as we were approaching and the scare actor did not jump out at us as a result. (She's 11 but can pass for 8). He didn't look scary - it was the startling that she didn't want. We have done express too. We asked if there was a scare actor in there before we got in the line. We were told no and there was not. It was a very different line than the regular line.

Some of us do actually love getting scares......even mild ones like this.........

It's fun for most folks. I hope they don't have to stop this just because a few folk don't like it. Don't like it, don't ride it.

I think the scare factor is fun too, but i understand how some people might be spooked by this. They shouldn't have to miss a great ride for this reason either. Maybe they should wear a flashing "ghoul be gone" necklace (like we have at our local amusement park) or something that would alert the actors to pass on the scares for a certain group?? Or maybe have them alerted in some other way?

I'm so glad I read this thread. I hate being scared and I really hate having people jump out at me. Thanks for the warning.

Are there signs at the beginning of the ride warning of this? Im not sure Id know about this if not for this forum. Are there any other queues that are scary? My 4 year old was looking forward to Kong but the actors would most likely scare him so I guess we'll skip.

I never noticed if there were signs or not, we don’t have young kids so never check things like that.

we were there for a week in december and never encountered anything in the (express pass) queue

They never have appeared in the Express line, full line only will you get the “actors” jumping out at you.

We were there last week, rode Kong right at rope drop, we were the first/only people in the line and there was a scare actor in the regular line. He was behind a wall, and jumped up at the opening (like a window) he did not touch us at all, just gave us a start! There were no signs that I saw warning anyone about this.

I did not find any other queues that had actual scare actors.

We've used EP for this ride- it usually has a long line when we are there. I want to jump in the standby to experience the SA! I hate being scared, too but I've become addicted to HHN!

To be clear -- this isn't in the express line, right?

I'm sure it's fun for some, but after DD17's experience with actors in a Haunted House in Wildwood, she is flat out refusing to go on this if I can't promise no humans jumping out at her in the dark.

My soon to be 13 year old won't ever go back on ghost ship again. I'm wondering if I should just not tell him about the experience in Kong and let him judge for himself.

If there is a line, you can tell where the scare actor is because of others getting spooked by him first. When it is walk-on, he is much more startling....

We went through the express line last summer, with DD sandwiched between us. Several times. There were never any actors. Also, it was easy to figure out where they might be.

However, DD did go into the regular line over spring break on her senior class trip. Someone jumped out, she screamed and cried and said she won't go on the ride again. But she does like the ride, so my guess is when we go back this summer, with express pass, she'll try again.

This. We have skipped Kong for two years now because it seemed like the ride itself would be too intense for the kids. I'm totally fine with that. That's the way of things with kids. There are a lot of things you skip. But now that all 3 of them would probably be fine with the ride but we wouldn't be able to go if we didn't have EP because of the line. Totally unfair. I am not someone who likes startles and haunted houses so I would never go to HHN and I don't begrudge that being there for others. If it were just me, I'd be brave and go on Kong despite the SA. But at least one of the kids would burst into tears and be unwilling to ride. IMO they should have an opt out lanyard they give people who don't want to be scared. Then people who like SA have a better chance of meeting them and are happy and those who would have the ride ruined don't have to worry. It seems easy and obvious so it's annoying that they don't have that.
