Skipping Lifeboat Drill?

Well Ann,
It will be traumatic, but I will relive it to tell the tale!
2626 is located over a cargo door, which means that as soon as the ship docks, it's rumble, bang, boom, smash, bang...the noise goes on and on. I never realized just how early that ship docks, particularly in Port Canaveral. That's the only stateroom where I've ever been disturbed by noise from below. But at least things were balanced...it is below the galley, so we had plenty of sound from above too. Trust me, the kitchen staff DOES work 24 hours!

but the last cruise we took was on our Honeymoon. Soooooo long ago that the "Disney Cruise" was the "Big Red Boat". Anyway,
It being our Honeymoon and all we were enjoying the newly found happiness that we found in the "gifts" of bottles that we found in our cabin upon embarkation. Finally, when they called for the "Drill" we grabbed our vests and made our way to the "Drill Area". Since we were already enjoying our liquid induced happiness, we made our way to the Bar and continued to order more. While sitting in Bar Stools during this all important "Life Saving Drill" (The Bar was Open and Available to ALL. I swear I didn't hold a gun to anyone's head to make them serve me and EVERY other bar stool occupant), something struck us funny as we sipped our drinks from plastic cups, through plastic straws, while wearing our life vests the entire time. Something about seeing several hundred people dressed in full oversized lifepreserver gear while being slightly altered will send you into uncontrollable fits of giggle spasms.
I am SOOOO Sorry for not paying attention and I Thank God that nothing happened where we would have needed to rely on our "training". But...
it was FUNNY.

I promise that the next cruise I will be a good Boy and pay attention.;)

On my first Disney cruise March 8 thru 15 this year. When we headed to Walt Disney Theatre, we checked in our cabins as we entered the theatre, then the only called off the cabins that didn't show up. We all had to wear our vests and they had to be on properly (they checked). Even the little ones, altho they did allow some people with the babies to take off the vests. It's important to be there, and if everyone goes right away, you're done in no time at all.

i know we are all kids at heart, but com-on we are all adults lets set the example and do the right thing.

I think the inconsiderate above all other's- who don't follow the rules -and feel they don't have to go to the lifeboat drill should gathered during the sail away party and made to walk the plank!! just a pretend plank of course, I understand there are some circumstances (illness, disabiltiy, etc) which may prevent a person from attendiing, but they have these things for a reason. Didn't everyone see Titanic???????

Rae's idea though is best, hey, maybe they could be made to THINK they're being put ashore at the sail away!! but that will probably be the last time they miss such an important meeting. :jester:

DCL knows I am hard of hearing. Interpreters are arranged for. I just don't know what the will be there for. The shows I know they will interpret. What else I am not quite sure of and I can't depend on my daughter to be with me when I need her. She is a beautiful young lady but she doesn't like to hang around Mom much. :D
For all I know she will be checking out some young man or find out one of her friends is an entertainment CM and I'll not see her the rest of the cruise.
My trip to Disney last June was like that. The girls knew some of the guys in Shockwave and I saw them maybe 2 times the entire weekend. I was completely wheelchair bound that trip and dh sent them to care for me. HAHAHA!

Well, she will HAVE to be with your for the drill--everyone in the cabin must report. So that problem is solved :)

I agree that eveyone should show up for the drill. Frankly, though, I don't think many people take them seriously because on the five cruises I have been on (none disney) many cabins were "absent". The one time I did not attend was when my daughter was ill (vomiting) on the Voyager. Our cabin attendant came to the room, knocked and asked why we were not at the drill. I explained (he HEARD) my daughter and asked if my husband and two boys could go without us.They did just that. But I was impressed that they had sent him back to the room> He said that there were a few cabins in our area that were not cooperating.

Didn't everyone see Titanic???????

Nope!!!

But we go to the drills. I don't know where our muster station is on our upcomming cruise.

All who have a muster station on the WEST side of the ship respectfully requests that EVERYONE come to the drill as quickly and promptly as possible.
In the summer,
in the sun, :sunny:
in the humidity,
in those big 'ole lifejackets,
especially on the west side - but also for all who are outside:smooth:

it's stinkin' hot and miserable:eek:

Do us all a favor and be there on time, so we can be done with it and get on with the important task of enjoying the sail away party and getting the show on the road (or the ship off of the shore as the case may be):bounce:

Ok..I know this has been asked a million times, but "What happened on the cruise where there was a fire?" What caused it, where were you at the time, was the trip cut short, or did it happen near the end? Can anyone give a few details please? Thank you.

I have heard of a family, all of whom did not attend the drill and they were visited at their stateroom later by a ship's officer. They were made to put on their life jackets but I don't know if they made them go to the muster station or not. Pretty embarrassing I must say! On the March 29 cruise, we were told to leave the jackets on while returning to the stateroom as bulky and uncomfortable as they were - a safety issue. They didn't want dangling straps on the floor for people to trip over.
Yes it is a nuisance, but in the scheme of things it is a small small item. And compliance does show consideration for other guests and respect for the efforts of the cruise line, not to mention if you should ever have the 'real thing' occur!
