We are in the park this Wednesday and Thursday with only a two day hopper pass. We are planning our next trip middle of November 2013. My husband and i are thinking we skip the Cars Land madness and just enjoy the rest of the park. We have been to DL a few weeks after Nemo opened, a week after the World of Color premiered along with TSM and last year for Star Tours and the Mermaid ride but this year DCA looks like a madhouse, lol! I'm a little weary of the long lines for RSR. Should we skip the Cars Land rides all together?
Also usually when we start at DL we ride Peter Pan first. But this year I'm thinking we hit up the Matterhorn first?
Any insight would be appreciated!

This is funny. I was just coming on to post almost the same thing. We will be at DLR July 1-3 for the first time in 20 years (1st time ever for my DDs 6 and 8, although we are WDW regulars). Unlike the OP, I don't foresee us coming back in the near future. Would we be making a mistake to just skip CL and see all the rest that the parks have to offer (maybe with shorter lines than usual because everyone else is riding the CL stuff)?

I would say at least walk it and check it out. Doesn't hurt to see what you might be missing. If it's overwhelming, move on to other things you'd rather do. If it was me and I only had 2 days, I wouldn't spend hours in carsland in line, but I might snag a FP or go in the single rider line for RSR. If it only took me an hour or two and I got to ride that and check out the scenery, I would feel better than if I had skipped it all together. Stick with the hope for the best, prepare for the worst cliche :)

Nice advice. :)

We will be there next week. Our plan is to either try and get a FP or wait in the single rider line. We don't get down there much, so I don't want to wait half a day in line! I have heard that the single rider line is faster than the FP line.

I would just like to see CL and ride RSR. I'll be okay skipping the other CL rides.

My DD8 would do single rider, but no way can I do that with DD6. She is a ride chicken. I guess we'll just try for a FP and hope we don't spend too much time in line.

id say enter get fp right away and then ride it when its time, and then spend the rest the time on the other rides

A child must be age 7 or older to ride alone, so a 6 year old would not be allowed to use the single rider line anyway.

I'm in the SF Bay also and get down there more frequently than then OP (okay make that A LOT more frequently). Still, I'd say to at least check it out and try to ride RSR. PP and Matterhorn will probably have their typical lengthy lines too, but most DLR fans, including yourself I'm sure, have ridden both countless times already. It's really the delta between the RSR wait and the Matterhorn wait that you'll be "wasting" anyway and you'll be able to say you experienced RSR as opposed to something pretty much everyone has been on :thumbsup2

If not, then at least walk through, snap some pics, etc. I think it'd be a shame to go and not at least check it out. If the wait for RSR is too long, there's always the other Cars Land rides that will have shorter waits.

At the end of the day, it's your vacation though ... but mid-week trip, first week Cars Land is open, and you're considering waiting in line for the Matterhorn anyway ... I say go the whole nine and hit up RSR! :woohoo:

The ride lines in CL may be madness, but I would definitely suggest going into Cars Land and looking around. On the morning I previewed it (June 9th) it was not a madhouse - there was plenty of space to move around and there were very few people in the queues, so my experience was different than the experience of others who are just now seeing it.

Of course it will not be empty any time in the immediate future, but Cars Land is so chock full of clever details and an overall fun atmosphere that it would be a shame to not take a look. Even the music coming from the speakers is lively and sets the tone (I was constantly tapping my feet to songs such a "Mustang Sally," "Route 66," "Freeway of Love," etc.).

Also spend some time on Buena Vista Street - there's some great new merchandise in some fabulous new stores, and the costumes on both the CM's and characters are amazing!

Thank you all for your replies! We ended up riding Mater's Junkyard Jamboree as a family and RSR as single riders. My kids missed out on RSR but since they aren't into Cars they could care less about the ride. Single rider wait was only a half hour even though the signs said the wait was 60 minutes. It all worked out and we had a great time :)

Since you brought up the costumes, I am very disapointed in the BVS costumes because they are straight from the DHS at WDW. While we are at it, the costumes over at Corn Dog Castle and the Boardwalk pasta area area straight from DCL on the classic ships from the Topsiders/Beach Blanket Buffet and fast food areas of the ship. No Imaganation what so ever making new costumes for DCA.

I love it when people come back to update their posts AFTER their trip, thank you so much!

We usually hit the Matterhorn or Space Mountain first, a couple of times actually. They always seem the least hectic!
