I'm going for the first time on Sunday, and would like to know what y'all think about it!

My family (all adults) went for dinner in mid-October. We had high hopes for this restaurant after reading some of the more recent reviews. The restaurant had a lot of fun decor to look at and a fun menu to read. The jokes in the menu are very much in the line of the Jungle Cruise attraction. The service was fine, not over-attentive, but not ignored either. The food came out fairly quickly and meal was fairly well paced. We tried the S.E.A. Shu Mai and Ginger's "Croc" of Hot-and-Sour Soup for appetizers (both were fine) and the"A Lot at Steak" Salad and Nile Nellie's Noodle Bow for entree (the steak salad was pretty good, but the noodles were really bland). We also tried the Punch Line Punch (very sweet, would not order it again) and the Schweitzer Slush (this was probably the best thing we had at Skippers Canteen). Overall, the food was kind of hit-or-miss. Nothing was awful, but nothing was really outstanding either. We haven't ruled out returning to the Canteen, but it's not necessarily high on our list of places to go back to either.

I thought the noodles had a lot of flavor. They weren't spicy, but there are a lot of different herbs in there. It was also an absolutely enormous bowl. Last year I had the steak, which was good. I'd never had yuca before, but I really liked it. The desserts are also quite tasty, but on the small side (I didn't mind after eating so much soup).

Maybe it depends on the chef or when they're ordered. We ate towards the end of the day (they closed at 7 and we got there around 6), so perhaps that impacted the quality of the dishes. Sadly, while our bowl of noodles was large, the "broth" was quite watery and lacking in much flavor.

We went on our last trip and the decor is really great. We found our food to be pretty good. Some of the waiters are more "on stage" than others.

My sister and I went in September and we absolutely loved it!
We love Jungle Cruise and it was like and extension of the ride as far as the punniness.
We enjoyed the theme. We liked our server. It was not too loud. Just and overall relaxing atmosphere.
I got the beefy noodle bake with green beans and my sister got the steak with potato bites.
We both found that the food was very flavorful and tasty.

Ate there about 10 days ago and loved it! It had the pork and it was so flavourful. My husband had the tiger fish and again loved it.

We had a really great server who told loads of awful Jungle Cruise type jokes

I will be back next trip!

We just tried it last Wednesday and it was okay. I didn't like the honey that came with the bread because it had strong ginger taste. I like raw ginger with sushi but not cooked in food.

I had ordered Arepas and thought shredded meat was too salty. However their Char Sui Pork was pretty good.

Service was good but didn't get any "fun jokes" so that was a bummer.

Last week I had the hot and sour soup, the bread with honey sauce and the Thai melon soda. Perfectly hit the spot for a light lunch.

what is the thai melon soda like? stupid question maybe, lol. I love melon. I am not a HUGE fan of fizzy stuff but I do love a good mojito so I think I basically just don't like syrupy sodas... but might be interested in the thai soda if it's not much like american sodas.

I thought it tasted like Midori. Not too sweet, imo. I even had two refills! They'll let you sample it before you order.

My wife and I tried the Skipper Canteen in April. I thought the food options were a little spicy for my taste, which limited the menu choices for me and negatively influenced my opinion of the food and value. Servers are hit or miss, as far as being comedians and the jokes, if told, were actually funny. I would not recommend this restaurant. JMHO.

I really enjoyed it last Sept. Good food, great service & interesting decor. I asked to be seated in the S.E.A. room & no problem at all. I had the steak & it was very flavourful (although a bit too much salt for my taste), the coconut bar for dessert (very pretty but not much flavour) and the slush (very good). I was on the Fall Free Dining Plan and they offered the slush as my included beverage. I would absolutely go back again & personally enjoyed the atmosphere much more than BOG. I would also go back for lunch if paying OOP as some of their appetizers served at nearby tables looked substantial enough for a meal & not much more $ than counter service.

I agree it tastes like Midori, but I thought it was pretty sweet and DH thought it was super fizzy. But like @L&Lfan said, you can sample first. I did, and ordered it. Interestingly neither of my kids liked it and they definitely like soda.

We ate here this week and really enjoyed it. We love Jungle Cruise and liked our waiter, so I'm sure that helped. (We've done WCC twice now, and been stuck in the quiet area with meh servers both times, so we're not huge fans of it like some are.) We had the dumplings which we thought were very good (DS loved them). DH had the crispy chicken and it was delicious. DS had the char sui pork and it was also very tasty. DD had the steak salad, but the meat was a little chewy for her (could've sent it back and had then cook it a bit more, but...) I had the curry stew with chicken added (for $5.50 more). It was very tasty, as was the rice and naan. I had enough chicken that I shared some with DD and DS had enough pork to do the same, so we didn't bother with the steak. The portions look small when plated, but it was plenty of food. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back :)
