Skipper Canteen "push"

I disagree with this part of your comment. The interior was a good blend of homage to the Jungle Cruise and Adventureland as a whole. I think Imagineering did a good job on making this out to be the headquarters of the Jungle Cruise Ltd., complete with a mess-hall like environment as well as more intimate spots that the bigwigs would use.

Again, the food was not great, very salty and it took forever (25+ minutes) to get two of the "easiest" dishes out (pho and mac n cheese). Those are the reasons I won't recommend it. I do think they should've let alcohol be served but it doesn't detract for me the way the experiece with the food and service did.

I'll amend my comment. WDW was asleep at the wheel on this one. The interior was lovely, but it was not followed through with the quality of food or even the delivery of jokes (if you could even call them that) by the servers. It needs to come together as a whole or it's not going to work. So, yes, those that designed the interior did a lovely job, the rest . . . . not so much! And, honestly, after they showed us what they could do with BOG, this was a serious let-down.

I don't care who likes it or doesn't like. Like most food reviews, it means nothing to me since taste is subjective. We will try it as soon as we have a chance and I'm looking forward to it. We often go without a TS meal planned so fitting in a walk up if the mood strikes is easy for us. The menu looks interesting. Looking forward to it.

For those of you worried about not being able to be seated, based on our experience, I wouldn't worry about it. We walked up at 1130 am, were seated right away, and the place was less than 1/4 full when we left at 1230pm. Granted it was a Tuesday but the park felt relatively packed.

The food was bland and not well done. My husband got the char siu pork and it was not very good: not spiced, a bit over cooked. I got the pho which was ridiculously overpriced for pho and not very spicy. It was over-Americanized asian food. The shu mai were ok but again not up to true dim sum standards.

It just wasn't good food.

Pho should not be spicy.

I still haven't gotten over there to try it. My 2 friends who worked there returned to their previous locations because they weren't making the money they thought they would. There are definitely things on the menu that look interesting to me, so I'll have to try to get over there at some point.

I was looking forward to trying it. For now the price is the reason I think we will skip it.

I hope they add alcohol- after all the name of the restaurant kind of demands it... If they don't we will continue our current policy of only eating at Be Our Guest for dinner in MK, all other dinners we leave the MK- occasionally we will have breakfast in MK though.

Canteen? That doesn't mean anything having to do with alcohol. Now Liberty Tree Tavern and Gaston's Tavern imply alcohol, and they don't have it.

hmm fair guess i just think of the star wars cantina

1) But, how many ADR's could be outstanding at MK?
2) There are not that many TS-eateries inside the park.
3) I think there are far more hungry people than available ADR's.

WDW has trained us that you need ADR's. On days we don't have ADR's we do a QS the key being Quick. To add a TS on the fly doesn't work with how many people visit MK. Also we never ADR lunch. As far as dinner we would be inclined to try.

I'd like to know if it's so bad, why I can't get a reservation. Is it by FP invitation only like when BOG first open for lunch?

Those of us who are saying guests are confused by a walk up TS restaurant find this quite funny
Well, I think it's a good thing. Wish they were all like that sometimes
Despite the bad food reviews, I still want to try it for ambience. Especially since it will be my adults only trip and don't care about the wait.

You are right. But you have to remove all those with an ADR for that day from the pool of potential guests.
Disney has ingrained in to most guests that they need to get their TS meals planned out well in advance. So they do. Either based on using their Dining Plan Credits or based on their planned budgeting. All those folks aren't going to take a chance to walk up for a TS meal. They plan them because they are trained to
The numbers who are able to change plans on the fly to eat at a walk up TS location are not very large.
That, combined with some pretty poor reviews read by those that are considering it, has bound to be what has led to numbers that are lower than hoped for.

For the record, we liked our meal there and I will be returning. But, until TIW is accepted, we will eat there less than we would if TIW was accepted.
And while I'm one who would like to see alcohol added to the menu the lack of it won't keep me away.

It is a good thing. It's just so different the guests don't realize it (as illustrated by your questions). That is leading to lower numbers visiting than Disney hoped for.

Because they are walk up only and not accepting reservations at this time.
