Word on the street tonight is that ADRs will be accepted after all and possibly starting January 5th. I just noticed that the restaurant is set up on the WDW site now saying reservations are accepted; it appears that they haven't been turned on yet though. Curiouser...and curiouser!!
ADRs are the most realistic option and the present walk-up/text msg system just wasn't tenable for the long term. The restaurant has to know what kind of volume it will handle each day for staffing schedules, etc. Also, the text msg doesn't work well for International Guests (even Canadians). Even the resorts are still struggling with International Guest check-ins. We can check-in online but WDW won't send us a text msg that our room is ready because a non-US cell phone number.
Thank you for this info! When I checked in (2 different vacations) this past year, I was told both times I would have to come back to front desk in a few hrs and line up for a CM to get my room number. So this is great info to know & I will definitely ask at check-in for them to email it to me when ready.
