Skip the front desk check in ?'s

Yes, you can definitely go to the front desk to inquire about getting a different room/location.

Yes you do. The following all have to be completed before you are eligible to possibly Bypass the Front Desk:

Complete Online Check In
Provide a Credit Card during Online Check In process
Set a PIN during Online Check In process
Be paid in full
Provide a US Cellular Phone Number or an email address
Provide an estimated Time of Arrival

You will ALWAYS be able to check in the old fashioned way.

Can't wait to use this! Not to sound like I hate human contact, but how nice it will be to just be dropped off and waltz right to my room. I love the CMs at the resorts and the welcome, but for often I go there I don't need a map or anything....it's basically 10-20 minutes of redundancy for me.

Oh I do want to go the front desk on my next trip,( if I get to stay at the Poly). I want to get our leis. If we don't get to stay at the Poly next go around, I won't have a problem by passing the front desk, as long as I am satisfied with my room location.

We live an hour away, went to stay overnight, I got off work at 2 without receiving a text..I had done online check in the week prior. I just called them to get the room number. I knew the room was probably already ready. It was. After I got room number over phone I went back in online check in and saw I entered wrong number to text.

We got our leis as we got off the bus. We also did our check in confirmation with a CM who had an iPad outside of the resort. You'll get your lei.

if we skip the front desk:
1. Do we need the parking pass?
2. Do you still get the welcome folder of info?
3. Has anybody gone directly to the parks and had MB issues?

Debating doing this since we want to do rope drop at HS on check-in day. We doubt our room would be ready anyway.

We used the online check in last time. We signed some stuff on an ipad on the outside sidewalk at Pop and the CM gave us the resort map. I don't know about the parking pass, because we didn't have a car. The welcome folder was in our room. We went to our room first, but had no MB issues.

Just to be clear.....

I am staying off property our first night. I have an 11:20 lunch ressie the following day at MK. I know our room wont be ready, and Ive been told I can go directly to the park. Is this not correct? Maybe the initial responders didnt know I was using the dining plan for the lunch (I never made that part clear). Should I go to the resort before I go to the MK?

Wait, so now you don't get a choice and they tell you how you're checking in? I LIKE talking to a CM when I get there (not to make any changes to my room...I just believe in human contact as part of the magic) and think the idea of completely bypassing the front desk is awful (eventually there go more jobs for live people - sad). I will NOT be happy if I get selected for that so-called privilege and don't have the in-person contact option.

Just don't do online check in. Get in line for the front desk when you arrive.

In the past I had room only reservations and was using multiple gift cards so I couldn't do online check in anyway. So I just went to the front desk.

My magic band was dead when I got to the park. Wife had used her card to get in the room to drop off our carry on and then I was stuck at the park entrance. CM said first time they had seen a dead battery and not even used yet. I find this odd. Ended up getting a new band back at the resort.

The bands have 2 separate functions, one is a close reader that doesn't require a battery like to enter the park, line queue, charge to your room. The battery is required to transmit your code to antennas at a farther distance like crowd monitoring, your photo at the end of the ride, anywhere that you don't hold your band up to a reader.

I didn't think it was the battery because the KTTW card never had batteries in them. I am going to assume that it just want functioning right as the CM said it was in the system but didn't even work when I touched at the desk touch point.

When we went to WDW (July 2015) we were going to skip checking in at the resort since I'd done the online check-in, then realized we needed the parking pass, so we swung by Pop Century. The CM at the check-in desk said the online check-in was only to let them (front desk) know when to expect people to arrive at the front desk to check-in.

We had to check-in with her to activate our magic bands and get our parking permit/pass. Then we were off to MK, several hours later we got our room numbers via text message.

If you use online check in, you should have no issue going right to the park and using if for the dining plan.

Actually the KTTW cards that were RFID capable did have a battery in them.
