Skip the front desk check in ?'s

The reader on the door had a battery but I don't think that the card did.

Yes it did. Without a battery the KTTW would not be able to transmit its ID for the reader on the door to read it and open the door. And one of my cousins worked on the team that designed the RFID chips that went into the KTTW cards.

Just "modified" our check-in (though did not change anything)-we have the "streamlined check-in" as well. Curious how this all works . . . .

When you arrive via ME or car you will go to the Streamlined Check In Kiosk. The CM there will check your ID and if your room is ready they will give you your room number. Then you can head right to your room or right to the parks. If your room is not ready, you can head right to the parks and you will get a text with your room number when it is ready.

If we're on MDE, can we get dropped off somewhere other than our resort? Can we just go to a park instead? My check in isn't until 4 pm at Kidani and my flight arrives at 1. Why bother taking the extra time to travel to Kidani?

DME drops you at your resort.

Official checkin time is at 4 but you can go and do the checkin process as early as 6am. You'll want to drop off any carryons at the resort and then if you feel like it go on to the parks.

My magic band was dead when I got to the park. Wife had used her card to get in the room to drop off our carry on and then I was stuck at the park entrance. CM said first time they had seen a dead battery and not even used yet. I find this odd. Ended up getting a new band back at the resort.

It is odd. Even the CM said it was odd. Odd.

Wait, so now you don't get a choice and they tell you how you're checking in? I LIKE talking to a CM when I get there (not to make any changes to my room...I just believe in human contact as part of the magic) and think the idea of completely bypassing the front desk is awful (eventually there go more jobs for live people - sad). I will NOT be happy if I get selected for that so-called privilege and don't have the in-person contact option.

Just like when we did online checkin in Dec 2010, we could still go to the normal line. :)

That is interesting, RFID doesn't usually require a battery, it's uses a passive transponder. The RFID toll tag on my car and the RFID security tags used in stores don't require a battery. The battery in the room keys had to be the thinnest battery known to man and must have only held a charge for a few days.

They are rated for 2.5 years.

Anyone know in Riverside where the Streamlined Kiosks are located?
