if we skip the front desk:
1. Do we need the parking pass?
2. Do you still get the welcome folder of info?
3. Has anybody gone directly to the parks and had MB issues?

Debating doing this since we want to do rope drop at HS on check-in day. We doubt our room would be ready anyway.

1. Your Magic Band is your parking pass.

2. Yes, in your room.

3. Yes with zero issues.

Same results for us! A whole week and never went to the front lobby.

Is checking in and bypassing the desk completely the only way to check in ahead of arrival or don't they still have online check in line at resort? If they are different, what are they each called?

If you do online check in there are 3 scenarios you could have happen:

1. Bypass the Front Desk - When you are on Magical Express, or get on property if driving, you will receive a text message stating your room is not ready yet but you will receive a text when it is. Or if you room is ready your text will have your room
number. Either text you receive, you are good to skip the front desk and head straight to a park. Your Magic Bands will work for park entry and dining credits if on one of the Dining Plans.

2. Streamlined Check In - When you arrive at your resort you will look for the Streamlined Check In Kiosk and show the CM there your ID. The CM will give you your documents and your room number if your room is ready. If your room is not ready, you
will receive a text when it is with the room number. Once you see the CM you are free to go to a park or your room if ready.

3. Normal Online Check In - When you arrive you will go to the Online Check in desk give the CM your ID and they will give you your documents and your room number if your room is ready. If your room is not ready you will get a text when it is with the
room number.

Once you complete Online Check in you will receive a message, or an email, informing you which one of the above 3 scenarios you will use.

Hope this helps.

I never got a message after I did online check in so how do I know which scenRio is mine?

What if you don't do on line check in? Are the bands already activated? Can I still go directly to the parks? And still use the dining plan. And also still get the text message for your room being ready?

I guess the key question is do you have to check in at all since the bands are detected as soon as you are on property?

The bands are activated when they ship, you will just scan it to get on Magical Express. The entitlements tied to your MDE account, tickets, dining credits, etc, are not accessible by your Magic Band until you are checked into your resort.

No. You will have to do Online Check in to have these options.

If you don't do online check in you will have to check in at your resort before your tickets and any dining credits are accessible.

Well I don't recall getting a message. Is there anyway I can find out which scenario I have?

Ok. As I thought. Things are changing so fast I thought they may have you skipping everything since the bands now track your every move.

I did online check in and bypassed the front desk. We didn't have any welcome folder in our room and had to look online for a resort map to figure out what was where.

If you don't get a welcome folder just head to the lobby when you have a spare moment and ask for one.

I never received and email either. I just went back to modify my check in, I didn't change anything. After I hit continue at the top it said that I had "streamlined check in". You can do the same thing it will tell you at the top.

Has anyone ever got the streamlined check in message but was able to bypass the lobby and have their room number texted to them?

You can opt for this during the online check-in process.

How does the resort activate your magic bands.

The resort doesn't activate them. They are shipped already activated, that's how you can use/scan them to get on the Magical Express at the Airport. What does happen once you are officially checked in to your resort is the entitlements linked to your My Disney Experience Account (room, tickets, dining credits, Memory Maker, etc) are then able to be accessed by your Magic Bands.
