Sketchers rant

Let me say that I have always had luck with sketchers, the wear great. So while vacationing at the beach in June I bought me a new pair at the sketchers store. I did not save the receipt. So after wearing them three times I noticed a tear in the stitching.

I was thinking about emailing their customer service with a picture of the tear (where you can clearly see they are brand new) and see if they would do anything for me.

Do you think I will have any luck?

I think that's a good idea. I've had someone tell me that they did this and got a new pair. I don't recall if it was skechers.

I bought a pair of Skechers Premium Kudos in Nubuck (khaki) at the end of June. Last week, a 1/2 inch split appeared in the lining in the top of the shoe where you put your foot in the shoe.

I'm going to see if I can get a shoe shop to fix the shoe.

These may be the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

As for your question, I personally don't go for freebies from corporations. How severe is the tear? Is the stitching defective? I would probably take the shoes to a shoe repair shop. (You could take a picture before going to the shoe repair shop to document your problem.) I would definitely say that if you have to get the shoe repaired a 2nd time, that I would definitely contact Skechers.

What if the OP's not the only one to have this issue? The company would want to know in case there's a larger problem . You should definitely contact the company.

:confused3

This one confuses me. How is contacting a company about a defective item "going for a freebie from a corporation"?

By all means, contact the company. There is obviously a problem with the shoes. I agree with the poster that says the company would want to know about it. It may be a much bigger issue than just your pair of shoes.

Yes, I would contact them - if they have a quality issue, how are they going to know if people don't tell them? It's not "going for freebies," it's reporting a problem. And if it's the stitching, a shoe repair place can probably fix it.

I quit buying Sketchers in 2003 when I bought a pair for my daughter for back to school, they sat in the box for a month (there was a good sale, so I picked them up early) and then on the third day of school the sole was coming loose.

They gave me a hassle about returning them even after I insisted they had been back to school shoes and hadn't been worn up until that week. We got an exchange finally, and the second pair barely lasted a month.

(And when I say "they" I mean the Sketchers outlet store.)

Yes, the last pair I bought is also starting to separate.

The tear is where the fabric meets the leather.

I'm not looking for a 'freebe'. I just expect that when you pay a premium price for a pair of sneakers that they don't begin to fall apart after wearing them three times with light usage.

I had almost the same issue. Bought 2 pairs of sketchers for DS, they had buy 1 get 1 50 per off, so it was a while before he wore the second pair, and they almost immediatly came apart. I had the receipt. Now, the first person I spoke to said yes...then someoen else said it had to be the same size. Ok, well we looked and looked, and they had nothing in his size that fit or he liked. Now the shoes that broke did fit him, so I was able to go up a size and settled for something. Now these shoes where cheaper them what I paid, and they wanted to to an even exchange I was like no. Now if it had been the same exact style I would have said yes...but it wasn't it. So I forced the issue and got a 10.00 credit. But I really don't want to go back there again! DS needs sneakers for school and I don't want to buy him sketchers!!

I haven't had hole/stitching problems but I find that Skechers wear the worst of any shoe I've owned. So while they have a lot of shoes I like, I won't buy them anymore because for the price I simply don't get much use out of them before they can no longer be worn.

I've been disappointed with Sketchers too. There is one style I really like for comfort/look and the first pair I owned held up beautifully. When it came time to replace them I bought the same style/size and they didn't last a week before the stitching started to unravel on one shoe, followed a couple weeks later by the same spot on the other shoe, followed by a broken strap. The first pair lasted me almost two years as my everyday shoes; the second didn't make it two months before they were unwearable. And my shoes don't get especially heavy use - I'm a SAHM that doesn't wear shoes in my own house/yard so they were worn just for running errands, picking up the kids, etc.

I hope you have better luck than I did with contacting the company. I got a form-letter response and a coupon for my trouble, as though a discount would convince me to buy another $60 pair of shoes after the first didn't hold up as well as a $15 pair from Kmart.

I have to agree with PPs about the poor quality. I stopped buying Skechers about five years ago. I bought two pair for DD, and both fell apart within a couple of months. I know kids are hard on shoes, but other brands would last much longer.

I don't think it would hurt to try. My daughter had a pair that started falling apart after just a few wearings. I sent a polite but specific email detailing the problems and my dissapointment in the quality. I also mentioned that her ten dollar Kmart shoes lasted much longer. They had me send the shoes back to the company and I was able to go to their website and pick out any pair under a certain price as a replacement. I did have to pay to ship the first pair, and I still am not happy with the quality of their shoes, but I thought it was good customer service on their part to offer a replacement.

This was a couple years ago, however, so YMMV...

Last year my DD got a pair of Sketchers and they ripped on the seam. She did wear them for 3 months, so she did get some good wear out of them. It seems like other brands can wear better and I can get almost a year out of them. My DD only wears her gym shoes 2 days a week at school.

This year I bought Nike for both girls from JCPenney's with a $10 off $25 and they were 29.99. My MIL bought one pair and I bought the other, so they were a decent deal and they are very nice. The girls are breaking them in now.

It wouldn't hurt to contact the company and let them know. They may replace them, but I'm sure it's not guaranteed. I don't trust their product anymore.

Where did you buy them? I know stores like Kohls (which sell Sketchers brand) claim to return everything at any time for any reason with no questions asked. A receipt gets you a full refund, no receipt you get an even exchange or store credit.

I bought them at the Sketchers store in Rehoboth Beach Delaware.

They will want you to send them to them but they may do something.

We had a problemw ith a pair of Sketchers also bought on vacation and did not even bother to send them to Sketchers as it would have cost more than they were even going to be worth.

ANOTHER bad pair of sketchers here. I bought YDS a pair of velcro sketchers last week and the velcro has completely pulled away from the shoe. I will be returning them to Kohls (where I purchased them). This isn't the first time I have had a problem with sketchers. However, it will be the last pair that I buy. DEF. call them.
