Skeet Shooting on Cruise Ships

I was watching "The Love Boat" the other night and guests were shown skeet shooting off the side of the ship. I don't believe DCL offers skeet shooting, but do other cruise lines offer this, or is it too dangerous with the amount of ships out there? It looks like fun, but I'm sure it's a big liability.

That does look like fun. I've only been on one cruise period (on DCL) so I can't answer your question, but my guess would probably be that they DON'T offer that anymore. Not just for safety issues, but probably environmental concerns. I know environmental concerns is the reason you can't hit golf balls off the ship anymore. And I've ALWAYS wanted to do that SO badly. To me, it was just the epitome of wasting money and I REALLY want to do it. I wonder if I'd get in trouble if I brought my 7-iron and bucket of range balls on deck ;)

I was able to skeet shoot on Royal Caribbean in 1995. But on all my other cruises (RCI and DCL) it has not been offered.

It was cheap if I remember correctly about $10 for 5 targets and I remember that my friend (girl) got 4 out of 5. I, however, missed them all. But she was identified for the rest of the cruise by the crew members and other pax that she was the GIRL that got 4 targets. (most men couldn't hit one either!)

Anyway, I think environment is the big issue now.

The previous posters are correct. This kind of activity as well as driving golf balls off the ship are no longer permitted due to increased environmental awareness.

There are biodegradeable golf balls such as those used on the new World of ResidenSea. One of the Royal Caribbean ships was still listed as having trap shooting this year, but they have most likely discontinued it. I can't recall which ship it was. And NCL's Norwegian Sun supposedly has an actual (not simulated) golf driving range, but I have not been on that ship.

I would think it would be relatively easy to find targets that could dissolve in the sea... same idea as the golf balls mentioned earlier. I could even recommend my mother-in-law's chocolate chip cookies. You'd still get that nice sharp sound of a rock-solid target being shot as well. However, it might take them a week or two to break down in water. And I wouldn't do that to the poor fishies anyway.

However, I'm sure in light of last year's events, any cruise line is not eager to introduce a new activity that would involve weapons of any kind.
